Severe weather threat today across Arkansas as a cold front plows into a warm and unstable air mass. A moderate risk of severe weather across the arklatex region today and little rock as well. If more sunshine and heating occurs, an upgrade to high risk is possible in Arkansas with significant tornadoes, very damaging winds, and large hail.
Meanwhile a more short term threat is in SE Texas where a tornado watch is in effect. A tornadic storm in Austing and Colorado Counties is moving east along I 10 towards Houston. If ther cell holds together, prepare for a damaging wind and tornado threat as well as hail golfball to baseball size.

Jim will it continue on the course of Eastward down I-10? I'll keep an eye on it - if you hear of anything - please post.

The supercell west of Houston has produced golfball size hail recently. No tornadon reports and radar indicates mostly hail threat with little tornado activity at this time. The storm is about 30-45 minutes away from Katy, TX and about 70-90 minutes away from downtown Houston. Main threat looks to be large hail to golfball size. However wind and a possible tornado cannot be discounted either, thus the tornado watch.

Yep, all three of our cars are out there!!! :o :o :o It is beginning to move into the Katy area right now. Looks to be spliting in two with one going ene towards Tomball and the other heading straight in I-10. Both are holding together and the thunder has started here in the Spring Branch area with winds starting to pick up too. The hail reports make me cringe since they have reported up to baseball size hail to our west!! Northern Harris County is under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning now too! I think it could/should be extended South soon if the Southern portion of the storm continues to hold together.
Here is a link to the current radar image. Looks like the Southern portion has definitely gone severe. It's about 15 miles West of me now.

I'll keep you posted as weather allows!
BTW, WxbuffJim you have a pm from me. And thanks for the great analysis and updates!!

Here is the current doppler radar for Houston. Warnings are now out for the entire western Metro area N and S of me. Now about 8 miles west of me.

It is a dead calm here now waiting on the storm to move in. The SW end of the storm moving my way is starting to worry me. Severe and no rain images right next to each other could mean a funnel cloud, but not picking up a hook echo.

Currently experiencing pea to large marble size hail here at the Spring Branch abode!! So far has lasted about 3 minutes, but fortunately is not an all hail event so we are not getting "pounded" I son't expect any damage at this point. If the pics I took are good enough I'll upload them later.

It does look like you lucked out this time Ticka! The South end will probably pass just to the North of I-10 as it comes your way.
