SVR Potential Today in NC

SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RALEIGH NC
507 AM EDT MON APR 21 2003

...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING ACROSS CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA AND THE NORTHWEST PIEDMONT...

SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL DEVELOP AHEAD OF A COLD FRONT THIS AFTERNOON. THERE WILL BE ENOUGH INSTABILITY AND UPPER LEVEL SUPPORT TO SUPPORT ISOLATED SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS MAINLY WEST OF THE I-95 CORRIDOR. THE MAIN THREAT THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING WILL BE FROM HAIL UP TO ONE INCH IN DIAMETER AND ISOLATED WIND GUSTS UP TO 60 MPH. THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY WILL TAPER OFF THIS EVENING AS THE ENERGY MOVES EAST OF THE AREA.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RALEIGH NC
345 PM EDT MON APR 21 2003

SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL INCREASE IN COVERAGE ACROSS THE SANDHILLS...COASTAL PLAIN AND NORTHEAST PIEDMONT OF CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA THROUGH 6 PM. THE STORMS WILL PRODUCE HEAVY DOWNPOURS...OCCASIONAL LIGHTNING STRIKES...WIND GUSTS UP TO 35 MPH...AND SOME HAIL.

THE SHOWERS AND STORMS WILL LIKELY AFFECT THE LATE AFTERNOON COMMUTE ACROSS THE TRIANGLE AREA. MOTORISTS ALONG INTERSTATES I-40 AND I-95 WILL NEED TO BE PREPARED FOR SUDDEN REDUCTION IN THE VISIBILITY WHEN TRAVELING THROUGH THE SHOWERS AND STORMS. REMEMBER TO SLOW DOWN WHEN
PASSING THROUGH THE SHOWERS.

IF YOU ARE CAUGHT OUTSIDE... SEEK REFUGE FROM THE STORM IN A
STRONG BUILDING. BOATERS ON AREA LAKES SHOULD TAKE SHELTER.
DO NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR OTHER ISOLATED TALL OBJECTS. THESE ATTRACT LIGHTNING. DO NOT DRIVE INTO AREAS WHERE WATER COVERS THE ROAD.

Possible severe weather tonight for Myrtle Beach. Radar showed
rain in Florence.

Well, just a few wispy real light passing showers earlier (just enough to get the pavement wet) but the heaviest of showers/t-storms has been to my south and moving eastward...so looks like northern Halifax County NC has "dodged the bullet" on any heavy/strong/or isolated severe activity with this latest system. :wink: Oh well, maybe next weekend...Friday is our next chance of t-storms! :wink:

No thunderstorms were reported in Myrtle Beach last night. :( Was
hot today though. Reached to the 80s today with sunny skies.

Got some thunder, lightning and moderate to heavy rain late last night between 2 and 2:45 am ET! :o :) Received .65" in the home gauge. :)

Sorry that you didn't get any t-storms, George. :(
