TORNADO WARNING for Madison County IN!!

#1 Postby Skywatch_NC » Sun May 30, 2004 8:25 pm

Tornado Warning

Statement as of 8:12 PM EST on May 30, 2004

The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued a

* Tornado Warning for...
Madison County in central Indiana
this includes the city of Anderson

* until 900 PM EST

* at 807 PM EST... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a
severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado near Ingalls...
or about 14 miles southwest of Anderson... moving northeast at 25
mph.

* The tornado is expected to be near...
Pendleton around 820 PM EST
Lapel around 825 PM EST
River Forest around 835 PM EST
Woodlawn Heights around 840 PM EST

Heavy rainfall may obscure this tornado. Take cover now! If you wait
to see or hear it coming... it may be too late to get to a safe place.

The safest place to be during a tornado is in a basement. Get under a
workbench or other piece of sturdy furniture. If no basement is
available... seek shelter on the lowest floor of the building in an
interior hallway or room such as a closet. Use blankets or pillows to
cover your body and always stay away from windows.

If in Mobile homes or vehicles... evacuate them and get inside a
substantial shelter. If no shelter is available... lie flat in the
nearest ditch or other low spot and cover your head with your hands.

Oh boy...HERE WE GO!! :eek: I have relatives in that general area! :(

Thank you, John...my folks should be back from some painting of our townhouse by around 10 or 10:30 ET...so will see if my Dad can call my grandfather who lives in Anderson (Dad's 2 sisters live in that same city) and find out anything...hopefully no damage near their immediate areas.

Thank you, Kristi...yes, my grandfather will be 90 on the Fourth of July...and by the time the folks arrive back here at the apt.--Grandpa may already be in bed at his house. But I'd hate to have to wait until tomorrow to contact him...both my aunts have email though so maybe Dad or I could ask them how their and his neighborhoods fared!

John, I'm not sure if you know...but Alexandria is the home of Gospel singers Bill and Gloria Gaither...they are known for such hymns as:

Since Anderson is only an hour behind Raleigh (9:11 pm there) it's still early
...so the folks there will still be up. :wink:

Is it kind of scary to anyone else that the time he posted was 9:11 PM? Just scary thinking about the tornadoes and the 9:11 time...sorry, I might just be too paranoid. :lol:
