Bow echo headed for Rochester, NY

#1 Postby WXBUFFJIM » Sun Apr 18, 2004 9:59 am

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for west central New York State Valid until 5 PM. The biggest threats will be large hail to 2 inches in diameter and damaging winds potentially in excess of 70 mph.

A bow echo is headed eastward towards the Rochester, NY vicinity. Numerous Counties are under severe thunderstorm warnings in the path of this. The counties include Genesee, Wyoming, and Orleans County. These storms have had a history of producing 70 mph wind and nickel sized hail and could produce at least 70 mph gusts as it is showing a classic bowing signature.

Stay safe in central NY state today. If a warning is issued for your area, you want to be in the lowest floor of your home or business and stay away from windows.

These storms blew through Northern Erie and Niagara counties this morning. I just got a little rain, as I am in Southern Erie, but there were reports of trees down and power outages in those areas.
