Thanks to a strong upper level low, parts of western Tennessee received their latest snow ever recorded. The Jackson, TN area received 3-4 inches of snow. Before today, the latest recorded snow in Jackson happened on April 5th, 1971.

It was definitely a sight to behold and one that will go into the record books!

Snow was recorded all the way to Huntsville, AL with this potent upper-level low, giving them their latest snow ever as well. Definitely one for the record books.

Of course I'm 400+ miles north of them but was stuck with heavy rain and low 40's all day .

Whats the elevation of Jackson, Tn? That may have had a lot to do with the snow. As brettjrob mentioned, it rained in Va.

Didn't exactly matter in this case with incredibly low heights and thickness schemes along with H85 temperatures running well below 0C (I believe between -4 and -6ÂșC), but Jackson, TN is in Western part of the State if my memory serves correctly.

Yes, Jackson is in the western part of the state, to the NE of Memphis. There isn't much of the way in elevation that would have contributed to the snow. As Stormfury stated, 850 temps were very cold and the Jackson area just happened to be where the deformation band setup. The temperature at midnight was 42 degrees with rain and dropped to 33 and snow at 3:30 am. All the factors came together to create a historic event.
