TORNADO...MOVING EAST AT 20 MPH.

DOPPER RADAR AND SPOTTER REPORTS INDICATE A TORNADO JUST WEST OF
HOBE SOUND AND HOBE SOUND BEACH MOVING EAST NORTHEAST AT 25 MPH.

RESIDENTS OF HOBE SOUND AND HOBE SOUND BEACH SHOULD TAKE COVER IN
A STURDY STRUCTURE AWAY FROM WINDOWS. NOW IS THE TIME TO TAKE COVER.

Sounds interesting Being from the Scotland, is it normal for Florida to have tornadoes? I have been a few times, and one of those times i had a tornado warning but i thought that thuderstorms there although frequent, hardly any of them became tornadic?

Florida isn't known for tornadic thunderstorms, although they are more common than places like New England and across the Northwestern U.S.

Thanks The uk has the largest number of tornadoes per square mile in the world, but i've only ever seen 4 funnel clouds

Florida frequently comes in as one of the top 5 states on an annual basis for reported tornadoes. Tornadoes in Florida are most often associated with winter time systems that generate large thunderstorms either over the GOM or the Peninsula itself. They have been quite damaging and deadly as a matter of fact. Tornado frequency in FL is greatest in the Dec-Feb timeframe as by March the greatest frequency begins to shift northwest through the Gulf Coast States and into TX. It's very dangerous to believe that tornadoes can't happen in FL just as it's dangerous to believe that they can't happen here in AZ where there have been fatalities due to tornadoes.

That's true, Steve. I hope I didn't allude that Florida tornadoes were rare. I have lived in the state since June 2000 and there have been several
warnings issued since then from the Melbourne, Ruskin (Tampa Bay Area) and Jacksonville NWS offices.

In fact, there was actually a Tornado Warning issued at 3:22 pm Eastern... in effect until 3:50 pm Eastern, which I assume you say in this forum.
