That storm must have a twister in it if it's moving at 65mph. Either that or it's very powerful.. Stay safe

SEVERE weather in tidewater

#3 Postby WXBUFFJIM » Sun Mar 07, 2004 10:11 pm

A tornado warning was issued earlier for Gates and Hertford Counties in ne North Carolina. That warning expired at 9:50 PM. However be on the lookout for possible tornadoes and wind damage along the Virginia/North Carolina border as this storm could rotate at anytime.

Otherwise expect 60 mph gusts with small hail, and horizontal rains.
Frequent lightning is also a threat for the VA tidewater and the NE North Carolina coast. While severe thunderstorm warnings are up for the tidewater area, keep an eye on a cell west of Norfolk. This cell could potentially spin up a tornado at anytime. There is alot of wind energy with this storm system and severe thunderstorms can and sometimes produce tornadoes with little or no advances warning.

The following is the current severe tstm warning for the tidewater.

THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING

There were storms moving up to 70 mph several days ago and they had straight line winds/no tornadoes reported... so fast moving cells aren't necessarily tornadic.
