Good afternoon. A tornado watch that was in effect earlier for eastern Texas and into west central Louisiana has expired. A new tornado watch is up furhter east to include the New Orleans, Gulfport, and Jackson areas. This watch is effective from 1135 AM CST until 5 PM CST. Tornadoes, hail 1 inch in diameter, thunderstorm wind gusts to 70 mph and dangerous lightning are posible in these areas.

Within the watch area, we have several warnings out. Tornado warnings are in effect for northwest Smith and Scott Counties in Mississippi effective until 11:50 am cst. This is a doppler indicated possible tornado 3 miles west of Polkville or about 12 miles sw of Morton moving northeast at at 45 mph. Forest and Palaski area near the path of this possible tornado.

Another tornado warning for southern Rankin and Simpson Counties in central Mississippi expired at 11:10 am est this morning. This was a doppler indicated tornado.

Within these tornado warning areas, there are numerous counties under severe thunderstorm warnings across south central Mississippi early this afternoon. If in the path of these storm, take cover on the lowest floor of your home. If you have a basement, you're better off there. More updates will follow throughout the afternoon.

Just glances at the severe reports and while there are isolated hail and wind reports, there are no tornado reports so far from this storm system. That could change later. Stay tuned.

Sounds like a dangerous situation in parts of the deep south. Hopefully, there are no reported injuries or deaths from the severe wx!
