Worst Winter Weather Event?

What is everyones worst winter event that they have lived through? For me, it has to be a tie between all of the lake effect snow here and the ice storm 1998. Before I moved here I had never heard of LES and now getting 2-4 feet of snow due to the lake is not uncommon. I am originally from the south and I tend to freak out over an inch of snow, so this winter had me really in awe. About 1998, 6 inches of ice, Jeff. County and soe other NY counties were in a state of emergency, schools were closed for at least a week, and the national guard was even deployed. A truly awesome storm. Tell me about what you have experienced!!

I remember that 1998 ice storm....up in Ontario and Canada it was just as bad. I've been in a few and even hit by lightning a few times, but 1993 10 years ago was my biggie. This year has been just as bad with all of the big storms we've had and I'm 4 inches away from an all time mark for a season here.

You have been hit by lightning?? That is something I never want to experience. What was it like?

Well if we're talking about strictly winter...this year has been tough for sure, but 1993 was a monster...I had a write up on it somewhere on here and also 1996 was nasty in terms of heavy snows. I am currently in the process of sending Ticka a very long history on all of the winters from Day 1 and how things have transcended even to this year....look for it in the next newsletter more than likely!

In 1998, we had a whiteout, pretty much a blizzard, think we got about 15", but all the rest of them in my area were before my time, LOL

3 come to mind here.
1989 Christmas Snowstorm (actually which is the best event for me)
1979 President's Day Blizzard (The Original) in which CHS was crippled by a very severe icestorm, and the last severe icestorm for the area.
1993 Superstorm - Light to Moderate Blowing Snow with 60 mph wind gusts (dusting accumulations) but still a true blizzard.

#1 Blizzard of 78 in New York.
#2 Perfect Storm while in Portland, Maine. Quoting the Boss Lonesome
Day: Hells Brewin', Dark Sun's on the Rise.
#3 SVR Tstorm last July 4th. In the middle of a football field doing a broadcast (lots of wires) under an aluminum frame tent. Fireworks ended, about 15, 000 took off and we were stuck on the field. Some of the most intense C-G I've ever seen. When your hair stands up and you smell sulfur you know it is here. No place to run, just squatted on balls of feet and prayed as I thought we'd be killed. Field didn't get hit but a nearby house was as were 2 trees. Never been that scared in wx.
