A couple of weeks ago my weather radio alarm went off...I went to check it, thinking that it was a river flood warning...to my suprise it was a tornado warning!! The sun was shining and there was no bad weather anywhere around me...I then looked at the NWS site and half of Mississippi and all of Alabama were under tornado warnings!! LOL What a huge tornado that must have been! I guess it was some sort of test also...

The NWS sends out test warnings generally during your state's severe weather awareness week. They use these test warnings to make sure that the EAS is working properly before severe weather season hits.

Yup. Early March-early April NWSFOs run Tornado Awareness Week drills. If you haven't had one and don't want to freak, Check your NWS for a PNS, it should be on most sites by now.

We are not in the TOR capital of the world but we do get them and do run the tornado test drill on our stations. We dread this b/c we get about 200 calls from people freakin' out. doesn't matter how many times we provide advance notice...they melt down.

I enjoy sitting there watching the phones light up

I thought it would just say this is a test...i've never heard of them actually posting "TORNADO WARNING (wait just kidding)" That is insanely irresponsible...like crying wolf to the whole nation ahha.
