The storm prediction center in Norman, OK has issued a tornado watch for se Texas ans adjacent coastal waters in effect from 1:45 PM CST until 7 PM CST.
Tornadoes, hail 1 inch in diameter, thunderstorm wind gusts to 65 mph, and dangerous lightning are possible in these areas. Houston, Galveston, and Baytown, Texas including the Beaumont area are under this tornado watch.
A cold front and a low pressure area is organizing in east Texas today. Along and ahead of the cold front, the airmass is becoming warm, moist, and unstable. Southeast winds at the surface combined with southwest wind aloft is also causing shearing winds at different heights in the atmosphere. That will lead to a greater probability for supercells and a tornado threat. The main threats today are heavy rains and isolated tornadoes. Stay tuned.
