Very faintly, a reddish hue is filling the northern sky, and hard to view right now due to tree tops and street lights ... if any displays can be caught on camera, I'll shoot those and upload.

I tried taking one shot with the digital and it doesn't show up at all ...

Nothing from my back yard, but my best bet would be to drive up the road a few miles into the wide open country. Also, the local mets said the best time for viewing if we will see anything here would be around 10pm, so we'll see!! Hey, at least I have stars- it's been so cloudy I haven't seen those for days!

Already getting reports in the northeastern sky in Illinois of the aurora ... keep your eyes out that way!

I'm thinking that I'm looking too hard but I think that the sky has some VERY faint reddish streaks to it. I'm going to keep going out to look myself because if you can see something Stormsfury and there are picutres coming from Maryland, then I should be able to see something also.

If you're looking towards the north, you should (and by the sound of it, you are seeing the aurora right now.

Stormsfury, I live in NC, but unfortunately am traveling in OK tonight. Wish I were there to see, never seen the Northern Lights before and this is probably my best chance to see them that far south. Hope to see some good pics!

I was looking to the north, but I wonder if it also had something to do with the street lights in the neighborhood. Hopefully I can see some greens also.

I've heard some reports that OK did see them last night and may see more tonight. Another large flare was released from the sun and may reach Earth around Halloween ... so it appears that there may be several opportunities to see them.

Awww that's a bummer, but from an article I read, I heard it would be viewable for most states at least faintly!

Thanks StormsFury. I am in suburban Tulsa, so if the city lights aren't too bright at the hotel I will see if I can see something. If not I will be back in NC this weekend and hopefully catch another one. Would be an awesome sight.

Street lights are my problem too Stephanie, I am going to have to take a cruise to catch anything! Which is a bummer becuase I am already in my pj's! LOL

My neighbors are currently wondering about the crazy woman standing outside staring at the sky in her robe and slippers!!!

LOL, well it is cold here, so in my case it is a silk pajama shirt and pants with a big ol sweatshirt over it! Wouldn't look too crazy, just don't want to freeze my booty off again! LOL, it is worth it though!

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Charlotte, North Carolina (has examples) are almost on the same latitude line.

Thanks Coldfront, I had not noticed that. I may wander outside in a few and see if I can see anything. I am in Tulsa, which is north of OKC, so if the streetlights don't get in the way I might have a shot.

You're welcome, jpp. Charlotte, NC is at 35.25°N and Tulsa, OK is at 36.15°N.

I just went outside and looked for awhile and didn't see squat. Oh well, maybe next solar storm
