Inundating rains in Lower South Carolina

A stripe of 1" to 2.5" rainfalls coming through Lower Dorchester County as of 10 pm this evening. Rainfalls and embedded thunderstorms are serving to replenish the upper soil moisture as it's been quite dry in the past 6 weeks.

And it has, Jacki.
So far, over 3" of rain has fallen since the rainfalls began yesterday afternoon and evening and another strong line of convection is moving in. Currently, very heavy rain and embedded thunder at times are reentering the area. What looked like to be a below normal month for rainfall has seen that end (and continue a consecutive above normal rainfall per month - starting March 2003) will continue. Today's rainfall will likely break a daily rainfall record and the tally here today is above what the area would normally see in one month (October).

3.75" of rain for October 28th, 2003 ... the largest 24 hour daily rainfall this year so far and more than the October monthly rainfall average in one night ... most of this rainfall fell since 7 pm tonight.

Lots of rain here too. We had about 3" of rain from the Sunday night/Monday event, and another 2" or so from last night into this morning. I look forward to the upcoming dry period from tomorrow into at least early next week.

This was the first decent rainfall since early in September and also of note the largest daily and 24 hour rainfall of the entire year of 2003. (3.75" fell on the 29th, most of that from 7 pm to midnight) with another 0.53" afterwards on the 30th early this morning. (Storm total: 4.28") Occasional thunderstorms accompanied the largescale rain area with a strong line of thunderstorm embedded within around 11 pm last night. 35 mph winds and quite a bit of thunder accompanied this line. It was quite an event.

That is a lot of rain!
I guess the temporary drought didn't last long! Now if only that kind of moisture can be present this winter.
