Ok guys here is a good question for the ages in relation to forecasting a region????

It seems to me that places such as my own has been considered a number of different regions by different Mets....................Lets see i have heard Ohio Valley, Great Lakes, Midwest???????? I know it cant be all of them so which is it and what states do you consider when naming a region????? I have a list of regions used by most here thats the most confusing IMO so its not all of them Just the ones i consider that gets mixed up alot..................If a state is split kinda like i think Ohio is then give a point of refrence to what part of the state is in what region??????

1. Northeast?
2. Midatlantic?
3. Southeast?
4. TN Valley?
5. Ohio Valley?
6. Great Lakes?
7. Midwest?
8. MO Valley
9. Gulf Coast States
10. Plains states which btw i know is divided into 3 so if you want to say Northern Plains or Central and or Southern Plains then say that.......
Me i say that where i am located in Ohio that if anything i consider this to be either (Upper Ohio Valley or the Great Lakes region seeing how the NWS for here is Cleveland, OH..
Seeing how i70 is more or less the dividing line of northern and southern OH i consider it the line of where the Ohio Valley and the Great Lakes meet up??????So i would go with Great Lakes for that reason.............

I consider the Midwest as beeing IA, IL, MN, Northern MO and WI................Indiana imo is the state that seperates the Great Lakes/Midwest/Ohio Valley regions....................

So lets see who comes up with what as far as what they see as a region..........................I can see another hot area as beeing where the Mid-Atlantic ends and the NE begins?????????

I would say Washington, Oregon and California are the Pacific region, being ride along the Pacific coast.

I would say Pennsylvania is more-so in the Middle Atlantic than in the Northeast, but otherwise Garrett, you're right on target!

Colin... you know I have long debated about that one (and New Jersey as well) but since parts of them both really feed the New York metro area I include them in the Northeast. And they always say the big cities of the Northeast which are Boston, New York, and Phillie.

Yes, NJ as been considered apart of both the MidAtlantic and the Northeast. No wonder we're so confused!!! :?

Kansas is in the bubble region, does that count?

Not really, they always say the big cities of the northeast "weatherwise" is from DC to Boston. Including Baltimore/Philly/NYC

Oh, please. Don't include the DC region in the Northeast. I grew up right outside of DC. Lived in Boston, NYC area and now Buffalo. DC is nothing like the Northease.

Tom... personally I don't disagree with you, but I think Hawaii and Alaska belong in a seperate group. They are the Pacific coast -- that is just something I don't choose to use. It is strictly a matter of personal preference, however.

Sometimes North Carolina is considered Mid-Atlantic also.

No offense, Garrett, of course... but for these states literally being along the Pacific coast, it is a matter of fact, not opinion.

Well as far as the west coast goes with Forecasting it goes like this most often............

Pacific Northwest
Washington, Idaho, Oregon, and as well northern California...............However Idaho isnt always the case here.........

The SW is considered Southern California, AZ, NV and once in a while NM is referred to the SW................

And in some cases as well the West coast as a whole is as well considered , Washington, Oregon, California as Tom Stated!!!!

Now as far as the MidAtlantic goes i myself consider these states as the midatlantic
VA, MD, DE, PA, NJ, AND in some cases W.VA......

For the NE I consider these as part of it..........
NY, CT, RI, MA, NH, VT, ME...................The thing about the NE and the MidAtlantic is that Places like Philadelphia is referred to both regions better known as the NE corridor which in extreme cases and more so in the past Washington, DC is added to it which i have no clue why geographically speaking...................Nowadays its simply called the i95 corridor which runs from DC to Boston in certain situations.....................On a side note in winter when dealing with a RN/SN lines in these two regions they are some times broken down again with the northeast cut in half and named Southern New England and northern New England..............Same goes for the MidAtlantic with a Southern MidAtlantic and a Northern MidAtlantic....................Pain in the arse regions if you ask me but it does help out alot with the RN/SN Line set up in the winter!!!!!!!!!

Boston, Massachusetts to Washington, D.C. is called the megalopolis, too.

Tom... that is one way to break them into a group. My way is another. Both are right and neither one is better than the other. They are along the Pacific coast but that doesn't mean that you must group them in a group entitled Pacific. If that was the case then everywhere from Maine to Eastern Florida would be in one group, the Gulf States in another and everyone else in the middle.

What do u class North Carolina South-east coast or Midatlantic because honestly could it be categorised as both.

I myself Consider it the SE coast...................It could be both however most people do consider it the SE coast................Very few times have i seen it called the MA with the exception of noaa i think who puts it in the MidAtlantic :? ...................BTW Most people that live there as well consider it the south...................
