EVERY day this past week, I've driven home during or just after a thunderstorm rolled through Philadelphia and it's surrounding counties. Yesterday's gully-washer brought over 2 inches of rain in the town next to me and I'm going to say that I had the same amount. Tonight's was just as bad and I kept on thinking of the term "Turn Around, Don't Drown", because there were many waves being created by cars driving through the water starting to accumulate swiftly on the side of the road. We've had heavy, training storms in this area in the past that had dropped 10 - 14 inches of rain in two particular areas with in the last 15 years or so and did some real damage like taking out dams to lakes. Thank goodness this is all happening over a period of time, but still.
We were slightly under normal precipitation for the year so far before June and I was concerned that we may be seeing another hot, dry July and August that would put us again into a drought. I hate wishing this rain away, but I really wish the atmosphere would start changing so the areas that really need the rain like the southwest and west would get it. Andrea got it started for us this month and it's like she's never really gone away.
I've had my air conditioner on, but after tonight's storm, it dropped to 70 with lower humidity, so I have the patio and front doors open to let the nice, fresh air in - while I listen to more rain falling...
