SNOW IN MIAMI ?
Just got back from my morning bicycle ride in beautiful south Florida and noticed the start of the acorn drop. That combined with the extremely nice summer makes me wonder about the chances of snow in Miami winter 2012/2013.

This is a fun tool that shows trace amounts more often than you would think on the Miami-Dade / Browsed line.

The only recorded snowfall in South Florida--meaning the entire Miami-Ft. Lauderdale-West Palm Beach region--was in January 1977, with only a trace at Miami International Airport. Older accounts dating to the 1880s, prior to the onset of extensive development, do not mention any snowfall in the region, though such an occurrence would have been mentioned as the pioneers frequently recorded freezes in South Florida. (Old accounts from the 1890s and early 1900s even recall large, hanging icicles as far south as Fort Lauderdale.) So snow is most likely a once-in-5,000-year event.

This year, I don't think there's any real shot. Don't see how we'll get anywhere near enough cold air hanging around for any length of time.
I guess the chance is never truly "zero"......but this year it's awful close to it. Most years. Hey, I seriously doubt I'll ever see anything like January 2010 again.

I remember Jan 2010 we had a cold rain all day and my car thermometer was flucuating between 39 to 41 degrees and this was 1pm in the afternoonin Ft Lauderdale. My parents in Ocala had snow.My sister just north of Orlado had freezing rain with icicles hanging from her roof.

Re: SNOW IN MIAMI ?
I went for the zero...but,
In truth, the likeliest % of snow would be 1 percent...meaning a once in 100 yr event on avg. This year seems no different to maybe lesser chances, although we still have 6 weeks more to go.
Miami itself sees 1%, but this odd goes up to 2-3% just to the northwest (Broward and the Everglades), in the normally cooler parts of South Florida. The region is so new urban-wise compared to much of the eastern U.S. that reliable records only go back 100 yrs, with records from the 1940s onwards being best.
Maybe the 1700s and 1800s saw snow in Miami, and surrounding regions too, on some occasions.
