It kinda came out of nowhere thanks to an extremely difficult forecast, but we had a rare January tornado outbreak in the Midwest.

Nearly 50 tornadoes that day and night (with about 30 in the Springfield, MO area alone), with 4 deaths. One of the other tornadoes (a strong EF3) was all the way up in Wisconsin!

This marked the start of the unbelievable 2008 tornado season (year-round) and was indeed the precursor to what was to come. I recall the strong winds that occured in southern Ontario the day after, very powerful and knocked out power/caused some damage just like a few weeks ago.

At least 2008 ended with pretty much a whimper tornado-wise.
