Boy is it raining! Here's the official numbers from our NWS:

2.46 inches In the 3 hours preceding Apr 05, 2008 - 04:56 AM EDT / 2008.04.05 0856 UTC
4.47 inches In the 6 hours preceding Apr 05, 2008 - 01:56 AM EDT / 2008.04.05 0556 UTC

That's almost 7 inches since last night! That was as of 5AM and it's been raining very heavy since then. I caught one on camera met on WKRG a couple minutes ago and she said we can expect 2+ more inches. It looks like the rain is ending now around New Orleans, but that end is still like 4 hours away from us. Now, we're used to rain down here, but not like this. 1-3 inches we can usually handle, but this is a mess! I haven't been able to find anything more definite than this about flooding in our area (from the NWS Forecast Discussion):
AREA RAINFALL REPORTS AND RADAR RAINFALL ESTIMATES INDICATE WIDESPREAD THREE TO SIX INCHES...WITH HEAVIER BANDS OF SEVEN TO TEN INCHES. REPORTS OF FLOODING...WITH SOME EVACUATIONS AND STRANDED VEHICLES CONTINUE TO COME IN

The TV station news websites indicate that rescue crews were able to get people out of the submerged cars safely. No injuries have been reported, thankfully. It was good that this happened on a Sat., but a lot of outdoor activities had to be cancelled or postponed. We're going to watch the Baybears (local minor league team) play tonight and there's been no word of them cancelling that. The field will be pretty damp, but the rain's been out of here since around 10:30. BTW, I went over to check my sister's pool as they are out of town. Mr brother-in-law's weather station recorded 11.2 inches of rain! I believe it! It was raining so hard!
