Mid-day update from SPC edges slight risk a bit more south into NE TX/NW LA. HRRR very consistent with storms from Dallas eastward.

Does anyone know if love bugs have anything to do with the weather? Those things are everywhere down here. Can’t keep my car clean for crap!

Cpv17 I think they come out especially when its humid lol , they are weird insects, male is attached to the female lol

If I have discussion (don't ever recall with you and definitely not alone in doing that on here) it's to gain a better understanding of what others are posting relative to the topic of weather. If folks are offended by follow up questions or discussion relating to what they actually post, I don't view that as a "me" problem? This is a weather forum after all and it's always done in a respectful manner. Nothing "confrontational" about that at all (lol).....until my post are taken wildly out of context?

Honestly, I don’t recall seeing them the past few years. Maybe they were here, but just not as bad as they are this year. Damn things are everywhere this year.

I was driving to go offshore from Cameron, Louisiana and I used up my windshield wiper fluid. They were almost a Biblical plague.

I've seen a few around but nothing like the coastal plains of Louisiana. Must be a humidity thing.

Flip-flop weekends continue. After the warm, mild weekend last week this coming weekend will be cool and potentially rainy. Everyone is doing well in terms of monthly rainfall, that should continue...looks good for the state. The western 1/3rd is still relatively dry.

Peak season looks to be around now to early May, they only live for days but the emergence could last a couple of more weeks. A mild winter, followed by humid spring usually can cause a boom in their population.

HRRR pretty consistent showing Dallas County east still after 7 or so. I may be in the clear here in north Fort Worth, though these models aren't perfect.

Like most animal behavior, it’s more about the past than the present. If it’s dry for a long time and then you get rain, bugs will hatch from their eggs/pupae. 2011 was beastly hot and dry and when it rained we got millions of crickets. No joke if you opened the door a drift of them would come in. They ate my shirts.

I look at the Del Rio radar every now and again.

About 100 miles SW of there in Northern MX seems to get hammered with wicked looking storms every day... at least in extended periods when the overall pattern is unstable. Must be some feature/mountains causing that but it’s rather fascinating in the consistency.

Exactly what that is. The moutain range Serranias Del Burro is notorious for creating the lift out there needed to generate storms and then more times than not they dissipate before they make it into TX.

Every now and then however one survives the trip and can dump very large hail/damaging wind in the Eagle Pass or Del Rio region.

Looks like towering cumulus developing on satellite in the DFW area currently. Seems to validate what the HRRR has been showing.

SPC watching the area just NW of Austin NE into portions of the DFW metro.

Storm tried to go up near Gatesville southwest of Waco but so far nothing has been able to sustain itself above the cap in place.
