northtxboy wrote:Well i got right at 2 inches since last night. fannin country seems to be in a dry spot or something. been raining to the north south east and west of us. i fell this morning on my way out to check the rain gauge. alot of my grass has died so lots of mud in the yard. so glad to see rain and there is a nice cool breeze comming out of the north.

I feel your pain about being in the dry spot. I was very pessimistic last night on my forecast, but I justify it by being burned by this drought pattern so many times lately. I predicted .25" to .5 inches and a faster than forecast frontal progression so I guess I was lucky that I got 2" , which I thought was a lot until I saw reports of 4,5,even 6" coming in. My yard was still rock hard earth this morning when I went out to check the guage so I was suprised to see so much in the guage. ( My yard will get soft and squishy when the ground is saturated) There was absolutely NO runoff, so the lakes around here are going to have to wait.

Here in Pflugerville the rain is moderate to heavy, looks like the heavier rain is still moving in. It has been nice and steady however.

While there is a break in the rain I ventured out to the rain guage again, since this morning we have another 1.2 inches.

LCRA Situation Report:

http://floodstatus.lcra.org/

"The probability of Flood Operations within the next 24 hours has increased significantly, but its occurrence and timing is still uncertain. Much needed precipitation has reached the Hill Country over the last 24 hours. Hydromet gages report widespread 24 hour totals of 1” - 2” with isolated 4” – 5” totals over the Llano and upper Colorado above Lake Buchanan and it continues to rain. At the current time the Llano River and its tributaries are generating runoff that is reaching Lakes LBJ and Marble Falls. Alternate Gate operations have begun at Wirtz and Starcke Dam. Alternate Operations are possible at Miller, Starcke, Wirtz and Inks dams. Alternate Operations involve passing water through floodgates or spillways at rates that are not more than the flow that is discharged by the hydroelectric generation of that turbine at that dam. We typically use Alternate Operations to pass small amounts of water when a hydro unit is unavailable for any reason. Alternate Operations are not flood operations, and do not trigger FONS activation or automatically cause a change in emergency response level. Flood Operations are possible at Miller, Starcke, Wirtz and Inks dams. Flood Operations are not likely at Buchanan or Mansfield dams since lakes Buchanan and Travis are far below flood levels. Flood operations involve releases of water through a dam by means of floodgates or spillways at rates that exceed the discharge capacity of the turbines at the dam due to uncontrolled inflows the lakes. ."

Activity in and around the metroplex is dieing down. I hope the areas to the SW hold up and make it here. More, more, more, more.

Rain still coming down at the PWC. Close to 3 inches now in the last 24 hours. This is awesome! :D

I noticed where KATT (Camp Mabry) set a new daily rainfall record as the existing record was 2.42 inches set in 1975. Mabry was close to 2 1/2 inches within the last hour.

My fellow Austinites doing better than I am. The weather station at the Weatherdude Center showed 0.93 inches. Almost an inch. Not 3 or 5 inches, but we'll take what we can get!

Here's the latest wide view of precip that has fallen over the state. I think the most important aspect of this event so far is the coverage it has over a large area. This type of rain is usually more beneficial to the water table than local thunderstorms.

Texarkana's final rainfall total is 8.66". That should make a pretty good dent in the drought.

Congratulations! I think that's the biggest total I've seen so far for a population center. NE Texas definitely fared well, a few more of this would be nice!

Update:

Electronic rain sensor shows 1.13 inches. I went out to check the gauge right next to sensor. It showed slightly over 1.2 inches.

I'll go with 1.2 inches.

Still on the low side of the regional average.
