April isn't really known for freezing rain or drizzle. Ground is much too warm and sun angle too strong. I can see a stray sleet pellet here and there. A fast moving line of storms as the front comes through. Story will be the cold for April. Anytime you get in the 30s on the fourth month is pretty noteworthy. April 2014 was the last time we had 30s at DFW for the month.

GFS 240 hour 850 mb heights and temperature forecast

LOL.. That is a very impressive cold airmass shown for mid-April for much of the Eastern CONUS. :cold: You would think it is mid-December looking at the extended forecast instead. So far 2018 is seemingly not allowing Old Man Winter to leave the scene. What Spring?????? Amazing.....

Also, latest teleconnection forecasts are now hinting at the - NAO sticking around through the rest of April.

Ensembles keep the chill in North America. The -NAO persistence and some Pacific help is keeping a rather unusual below normal April, although not unlike some oncoming El Nino Aprils.

As noted before, along with Bubba's posts, heading into solar min, changes in the tropical Pacific it might be a cooler year (relative to the record years of the past several) overall for us.

I remember in the '70s some snow falling in June and a hard freeze in August in NW lower Michigan. I remember one of the summers, 76 or 77, having only a few days where it got over 80 degrees the whole summer.

If weather like this persists into mid-May, then there will be impacts on corn vs soybean planting, etc.

Cell moving into Collin County looks pretty potent. Might have a hail core with it

Road crews were out all day today treating the bridges and overpasses. I feel like that’s going a little far.

Hopefully it stays north and doesn't hook to the SE, looking nasty on radar.

Very intense returns just north of the notch, typically a sign of an extreme rotating updraft and giant hail, could produce a tornado.
