Black skies and thunder in the distance approaching us now in SW LA. Hopefully it'll just be a rain event and not hail or tornadoes.

Hi Jagno. Hope you don't get pounded too badly. So far, our Bear Creek Dome has limited my experience for the day to bouts of decent rain, but nothing severe. Like you, I'm hearing thunder crash all around. Do y'all at least NEED the rain where you're at?

Hi Jen... I know, we didnt get anything too severe, but some of the thunder just a little while ago was pretty loud... I kinda like this rainy weather.... It makes me stay in the house and clean stuff...

Houston is getting slammed. I saw a nasty storm on radar moving toward the area.

There have been some reports of pea to dime sized hail in the Houston vicinity from the cell currently moving through down there. However, there is no warning for it at the moment (which is strange since it is obviously right on the "edge" of being severe). Besides that storm, it now looks like another strong cell will be moving in from the NW. This one may also produce some hail..possibly closer to my area and in the northern part of the county. It will be interesting to see if this one gets a warning.

MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 0286
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0311 PM CDT WED MAR 14 2007

AREAS AFFECTED...THE MIDDLE TX COAST

CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 62...

VALID 142011Z - 142145Z

ELEVATED SEVERE THREAT CONTINUES...WHILE CONDITIONAL/LOW-PROBABILITY
THREAT FOR SURFACE-BASED SEVERE WEATHER REMAINS APPARENT.

THUNDERSTORMS CONTINUE ABOVE CAPPED BOUNDARY LAYER IN THE MIDDLE TX
COASTAL PLAIN...WHERE THREAT FOR HAIL CONTINUES. POTENTIALLY-MORE
SIGNIFICANT THREAT -- OF THE LOW PROBABILITY/CONDITIONAL VARIETY --
PERSISTS NEAR OUTFLOW BOUNDARY...WHICH NOW LIES WNW-ESE BETWEEN
CORPUS CHRISTI TX AND PALACIOS TX. ACROSS THIS REGION...EWD
ADVECTION OF WARM AIR WITHIN THE CAPPING LAYER CONTINUES -- AS
SUPPORTED BY LACK OF A TCU FIELD. HOWEVER...PRESENCE OF UPPER 60S
TO LOW 70S DEWPOINTS AND FAVORABLE LOW-LEVEL SHEAR INVOF THIS
BOUNDARY ALONG WITH STEEP MID-LEVEL LAPSE RATES WOULD SUPPORT
VIGOROUS UPDRAFTS AND LOW-LEVEL MESOCYCLONE/TORNADO DEVELOPMENT
GIVEN STORM INITIATION. ATTM...IT APPEARS MORE LIKELY THAT CAPPING
AND SUBSIDENCE SHOULD PRECLUDE STORM DEVELOPMENT NEAR THE OUTFLOW
BOUNDARY. HOWEVER...WE WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR THIS REGION --
PARTICULARLY OVER THE COASTAL COUNTIES NEAR VICTORIA TX -- FOR ANY
HINTS OF THE IMMINENCE OF DEEP CONVECTIVE DEVELOPMENT -- WHICH WOULD
LIKELY REQUIRE RAPID UPGRADE TO TORNADO WATCH.

Yankee - you and I must be cut from the same cloth - I just finished vacuuming and doing a general cleanup. LOL!

RE: last night's action, we had water knocking at the back door in 15-20 minutes, and judging by the water level in the pool (rain gauge is trashed) we got a good 4" last night. My mom lives 2 miles from me and she had some marble size hail last night.

Today has been a great day to hole-in and like Yankee said, putter around the house. It's getting darker by the minute and not a puff of wind. Lots of thunder rumbling, but the rain hasn't kicked us just yet.

WOW! Like my dear old dad used to say, it's raining like a cow P*****G on a flat rock out there! It's almost reminiscent of a proper summertime afternoon sub-tropical rain. Oh... and there goes the street bubbling under again...
