Yeah, today definitely looks worse than yesterday. At least 3 tornadoes currently confirmed on the ground, the one in Northern Illinois is kinda making the hair at the back of my neck stand up. Been on the ground for ages, too. Quite the long-tracker.

Did y'all see the people in Rochelle, Illinois drive into the wedge tornado!??

I never have understood why people just keep driving even if it's a violent tornado in their way.

Getting reports of catastrophic damage in Kirkland, IL and surrounding areas from multiple chasers. A horizontal vortex is evident in several videos of the wedge tornado, supporting the idea that it was violent in nature.

Taking a look at the 0z sounding from Lincoln, 850mb winds and 500mb winds are nearly unidirectional, so it's a little bit of a mystery how a violent tornado developed. I have two hypotheses right now: either the sounding site is too far south and the environment across northern Illinois is much more favorable than illustrated, or the tornado was enhanced by a mesoscale boundary that cannot be picked up by the sounding.

I backed up a couple of frames just before the image posted above and the main signature looks like it went just west of Kirkland across 72.

Yeah, apparently a restaurant was flattened just north of Rochelle, Il. Same Tornado that also went through Kirkland apparently.

I've seen a couple of reports from storm chasers that in at least a couple of spots, complete destruction was reported with some homes wiped clean from their foundations.

It looks like there was some ground scouring in some damage pics.
