I've been watching the line of convection and it has been stalled for several hours now. Training event in progress so expect a lot of rain tonight in parts of SW La. Might have some major flooding issues by dawn Wednesday....MGC

Oh boy. Lafayette Parish School System has already cancelled school for tomorrow. Personally I think they're jumping the gun. Yes, northern Lafayette parish did flood last week but the rest of the parish was fine. Last time i remember them canceling school for expected rain...it ended up without a cloud in the sky and not a raindrop to be found!

Vernon Parish schools canceled classes for tomorrow around 5pm this evening. NSU's Ft Polk campus also closed. I read this on facebook from friends backhome, but was able to google around and find a source. I don't recall a parish ever canceling classes for a heavy rain/flood event so early. When I lived down there they always waited til around 5:30am to make the decision. I've seen a couple pictures floating around on facebook, but not reposting any here unless I can verify the location and authenticity. This pic was taken this evening at the Walmart in Leesville, LA.

The following is a Press Release from the Beauregard Parish Sheriff's Office:

The Beauregard Parish Sheriff's Office and Office of Emergency Preparedness is issuing the following advisory to all residents of Beauregard Parish; stay off all parish roads unless of an extreme emergency.

It has been reported that sections of Hwy 27 are under a minimum of five feet of water and that rising waters have already caused numerous vehicles on other parish roads to become stranded.

Strong winds have caused some damage in the Singer area and caused an 18-wheeler to leave Highway 171 in Ragley. No injuries have been reported.

All residents are urged to use extreme caution and observe all warnings to rising flood waters.

Did some area in Louisiana receive 10" of rain?

My husband just finished saying "My God" and called me into the living room to hear it but it was over by the time I got there. He is wondering if the newscaster was correct.

Radar estimates on the NWS Lake Charles website are starting to indicate 10+ inches in some areas.

Yes we have gotten 6-10" in Vernon, Beauregard and Calcasieu parishes so far. Vernon and Beauregard parish schools have announced closures for tomorrow. It's still pouring at a rate of 2"-5" in many areas.

:uarrow: or hoping Jagno's house is on high ground!

Louisiana and Manitioba sure do see a heck of a lot more than their fair share of water.

My cousin lives near the Whiskey Chitto, just north of Highway 26 at the Wye in Beauregard parish, which always floods pretty extensively during any heavy rain/flood event in SW LA. Today was her birthday, and all she wanted was her power back on for her birthday. I'm not sure on which electric company these guys are from (Either Beauregard Electric or Cleco), but I guess they were trying to make her birthday wish come true lol. Her caption stated, "I guess they do what it takes to get the power back LOL"

Thanks for your thoughts but I fared well although there are still many evacuating ahead of the crests along the local waterways. Lake Arthur took a hard hit from a tornado. I hope all are well and enjoying our beautiful sunshine.

Here we go again with more rain arriving. Monday through Wednesday looks to be along the lines of hot liquid sunshine. There will not be enough mosquito repellent to ward off these perfect breeding conditions.

They should go nicely with the swarms of bees we are having issues with already. DH got stung 3 times in his face and twice on top of his head when he interrupted a nest of them while weedeating. Our loyal black labs went running to him when he got stung. Our female lab Heidi got covered in them and our male, Cappie has several stings. Benadryl for all and they are doing well.

On a side note.....I finally got drapes up in my living room for the first time since Rita. LOL And just to think, only 60 days to hurricane season.

Have a great week and stay dry!

Too late on the stay dry!! We've already had a line of storms move through this morning. Not sure if it will get to you as the ULL that caused it is moving NE. Looks like we'll have rain for a few more hours here in Houston metro before it quits till next system comes through. Not going to be a very dry few days and unfortunately there is enough instability that we may get some severe.
YIKES!!! on the bees. Glad to know everyone is ok.

The latest from Jeff Lindner: Looks like at least the NE portions of the metro area are going to/getting more storms this afternoon.

Strong meso vortex curling is way across eastern TX and Louisiana early this afternoon with a large bowing line of thunderstorms extending from NE TX to central Louisiana.

On the backside (southern flank) of this system, the high level cirrus clouds have eroded and with modest heating new thunderstorms have developed and rapidly become severe over Liberty and San Jacinto Counties. Additionally, the cumulus field along US 59 appears agitated over southern Harris and Fort Bend/Wharton Counties and some additional development may occur rapidly in the next 1-2 hours. In fact a look at the window shows a rapid increase in the cumulus field in the last 30 minutes. Storms have shown a recent trend to go severe very quickly with hail and strong winds the main threats. This appears to be focused on the nose of rapidly returning moist off the Gulf after the passage of this morning’s strong MCS and possibly some sort of meso boundary left over on the southern end of the MCS that crossed the coastal waters.

Had a gullywasher move through around 4:00 pm. Strong winds, frequent lighting and dime to quarter size hail for over 15 minutes. While the storm only lasted about 25 minutes it dropped almost 1" in the rain gauge. Now as peaceful as can be. This reminds me of springs and summers 15 years ago with pop up severe storms then cool calm evenings.

Got woken up just before 4am with heavy rain and nearly constant lightning/thunder. Received over 2" at my house about 1.5" over at the airport. The wet spring continues!

Jeff's email from today.

Powerful storm system will bring highly active weather to the plains starting Saturday.

***Significant outbreak of potentially large long tracked life threatening tornadoes increasingly likely Saturday afternoon/night from NC TX into KS. SPC has issued a rare high risk outlook (below below). A few devastating violent tornadoes are possible in this high risk area. ***

Southerly flow is increasing late this morning as pressures lower to our west as a deep trough edges toward the plains. Dry line will take shape over western TX today and spawn severe thunderstorms this afternoon, but the “big” show will be Saturday afternoon when a powerful short wave plows into the southern plains surging the dryline eastward into a strongly sheared and unstable warm sector. Explosive thunderstorms will result with widespread severe weather expected from SW TX to the Midwest. Intersection of northward moving warm front and dryline over OK will likely be the area of high tornado potential on Saturday…a significant outbreak is likely!

Pacific front will overtake the dryline Saturday night with numerous thunderstorms ongoing from W TX northward. Front will slow as is pushes eastward into C TX as upper level flow becomes increasingly parallel to the boundary. Strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible Saturday night/Sunday morning across central and north TX. Boundary will move toward SE TX on Sunday afternoon during peak heating and expect thunderstorms to develop along and ahead of this feature. Air mass will be unstable and expect some storms to be strong to severe especially across the north and western counties Sunday afternoon/evening. Threat will transition into a heavy rainfall situation overnight into Monday morning as thunderstorms slow down and begin to training across the area as the boundary slows as it near US 59. PWS climb to near 1.8 inches by late Sunday suggesting some very heavy rainfall in a short period of time is likely.

Some severe weather is possible Sun-Mon over the area with the main threats being large hail and damaging winds, although an isolated tornado is also possible.

Rainfall amounts of 1-3 inches widespread areas likely with a few isolated totals of 3-5 inches. Grounds remain wet to saturated over the region and this will result in direct run-off into area streams and rivers. A flash flood watch may be needed this weekend for a portion or all of the area.

So Central TX is included in the mix- There is nothing on our News pages other than 70% chance of rain- I thought most of the severe would be in the the panhandle or well to the North- Better get the flashlights ready - Here we go again :) Thank you for sharing that last update
