While the subject is currently about the heat, I do believe things will be changing soon for our weather. Today, I noticed that the sun angle is really starting to change and the sky's appearance is looking more autumnal. Also, I know that many do not have this problem in Texas, but in my area the love bugs are already starting to appear! They are rather early this year and I am not sure that's necessarily a good thing. Last time they were this early was in August of 2017.

I can tell the subtle changes in the sun angle. Also notice when I run in the early morning around 6, it feels slightly "cooler" lately. Lasts longer. But that could just be drier air from the placement of the heat ridge(?).

I know we're into a bit of a boring streak now but I've been impressed at the rain and fronts this summer even the one last week... I really feel thats a good sign for the fall

And we are really starting to lose daylight this month

Now that said I'm not getting my hopes up about winter because everyone has been so wrong the last few years

For those who read HGX discussions, I have seen them mention the CAMs models more lately. What are those models short range I presume?

CAMs are Convection Allowing Models. Basically the short range high-resolution models like the WRFs, HRRR, and 3km NAM.

Just arrived in Miami this evening. I can't remember if I mentioned it before, but I will be starting grad school at FIU for disaster management this Saturday, so I will be living here for the next year.

Welp, it was bound to come eventually, but here we are. The dog days of August - high 90's to 100 for highs with lows staying in the 80's. WU's long range show relief by the end of next week. I hope they are right.

Hey Professor, I'd like to echo Cpv17's comments ... your Storm2K pals have been able to watch you ascend through your educational career. This sounds like a perfect next step for you and we wish you all the best. Don't forget about us some day when you're running FEMA or something.

EPAC is lighting up with tropical cyclones off the west coast of Mexico. Potentially some high impact systems there. Too soon for any direct effects on Texas but reminder that it is around the corner. The increased moisture along our longitude will help a bit down the road.

It is cold neutral so don't expect any kind of crazy rainfalls. But Fall is the second wet season due to the factors of changing air masses and EPAC activity.

Newest Euro Weeklies have a weakness across the Western Gulf and Texas during the last part of August into early September. That keeps the Western Gulf and Texas wet but will that just be increased rain associated with the MJO 7-8 swing or tropical activity? As long as the EPAC is on fire, then the Gulf should be shut down but as the MJO moves there will be a window during which the Gulf will need watching.

That's awesome! It's been fun watching your posts on here over the years and how much you have done as you have become a seasoned pro meteorologist, now on to grad school.

Good luck to you, Professor! Don't forget about us as you go saving the world! :)

I didn't know that disaster management was a grad school program. I'm sure there must be a lot of training. Congratulations!

I am quite concerned about the timing of this event if it occurs. Late August/early September is a very high risk time for tropical cyclones in Texas.

Yeah it's an emergency management program but with bot a U.S and international focus and outside the U.S emergency management is called disaster management.

Both the GFS and Euro continue to show a persistent weakness in the western Gulf in the period outlined above by bubba hotep. It seems like once the southern end of the High Pressure Ridge of Death erodes over Texas, it's going to open us up to whatever is percolating in the Caribbean and Gulf. I would agree with y'all that this is a period we need to watch closely.
