Flash Flood Watch for a large portion of Central Texas. Yes its been quite awhile since a FFW was hoisted for Central Texas. Some area could receive up to 5" of very well needed rains. Radar shows a large area of rain ongoing across Central Texas this morning. SE TX has good rain chances through Tuesday as GOM moisture moves inland on the backside of the upper level low (ULL).

0.16-inch had fallen when I left the house at 6:50am. Just light rain had fallen at the time. It was 68 degrees! :D Just hoping/praying Lake Travis and all of the other lakes and aquifers in desperate need around Texas benefit from the flood watches. :rain:

Not the 3+ I was expecting but I'm closing in 1 inch after the latest round and it's raining again right now steadily. GFS so far has outpaced the Euro (<- it was much more optimisitc) at least for me with this event having mostly light rain since Sunday morning, I'll leave judgement to when it's all over. Back to back days of low-mid 70s has been heavenly to say the least. Can only remember 2004 having one of these days in July.

1.63 inches in the last 24 hours as of 1:50 pm at my abode. :rain: Looks like the "tail end" (bottom comma shape "tail") of the trough is hanging out west and north, inching it's way this way with pop up heavy showers and dissipation ongoing. It's honestly been raining more in the watersheds, which is where it ultimately counts.
And, it is 71 degrees! :D I might go put on my jacket! :jacket:

I am not a meteorologist, and any posts made by me are not official forecasts or to be interpreted as being intelligent. These posts are just my opinions and are probably silly opinions.

We're in the middle of the huge donut hole in the middle of the red circle for rain totals: This means no help for Lake Lavon as the whole watershed got shafted.

:uarrow: Just can't catch a break up there in central Collin County!

Some of the heaviest rains right now in the state are actually in SE Texas under those convective storms. Hopefully they hold together and give more areas another shot.

CBS 11's Larry Mowry did an article on how cool today (by extension yesterday too the high was in the lower 80s at midnight) in Dallas. If the high stands it will go down in the record books as the 2nd coolest Max temp in Dallas for the month of July. Austin at 77 must be some kind of record I bet though we'll see if it warms up any more down that way. As I said earlier this month with the first cool down, July is the new September!

http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2013/07/15/just ... zg.twitter

You just don’t see this very often! The chill we are seeing today is really incredibly rare. The high temperature today will only be in the 70s. This will be the first time in 16 years where the high temperature has only been in the 70s during the month of July...

...To put this in more perspective, July records have been kept since 1899. That is 113 years of data. That equals 3,518 days of data for the month of July. Of those 3,518 days, only 4 have had high temperatures 73 degrees or cooler! Just incredible.

I feel your pain. I've been getting the same thing happen to me almost every rain event this spring and summer. Trees are dying in my neighborhood from the drought, like 2011 again. Even last night - I was in a "U" shape of heavy rains (My house was at the bottom of the "U", go figure).

I have managed about 1/2" over the last two days from this - I'm hoping for more as places around me have had 5".

I've just about given up hope on convective events helping us out. We're going to have to wait for something synoptic (something big and powerful enough to overcome whatever is causing our rain-shadow.) In my rainfall map above you can see how the rain vortexed around us. I was watching storm motions all day on radar and their motions echo where the rain fell.

Well, thankfully the rain shadow was overwhelmed in my area for once. Sorry for those dealing with that ridiculousness. Have received 1.77 inches of rain in the last 24 hours. It is also 70.6 degrees at 10:10pm. It was 75 degree at 4:30pm today -- in JULY. :D
Well-deserved, much-needed revitalization period!
Bring it!! Hope the lakes respond!

:uarrow:

Don't feel too bad, horselattitudesfarm. I only received .45 inches of rain while most of the AUS metro area received much more. The anti-rain shield held stronger over the western/southwestern parts of town. :(

More showers falling in our area now, hope to get another 1/2 inch today and maybe some of these will move over your area Portastorm.

It's like a sauna out there, tropical air mass indeed. I want the cool temps back! GFS performed best during this event showing the heaviest precip over the northern areas of central Texas. This sticky air mass is going to stick with us for a few more days while deep south Texas and coastal areas feel the most effects of the latest invest in the gulf.

I think you know the reason for that. If you have forgotten, I'll spell it out for you: O-M-E-G-A Block.

Wow these popcorn showers really pour. I've gotten almost about as much rain from them today as the past 2 combined.
