I wonder if it has something to do with all the concrete in the DFW area

I doubt it—Houston has just as much concrete and despite being way more south has seen double the events as DFW the last 3-4 years. And cold definitely wasn’t the issue today either.

Yeah i dont buy the concrete thing at all

I think its more Houston is an hour from the Gulf better moisture when the cold does line up notice our events are the opposite have been lack of moisture usually

We've just been ridiculously unlucky with the timing of these

Been one heck of a front for November. DFW airport is already at freezing by 8pm and low to mid 20s on cold air advection alone is impressive. Should be 5 freezes total (2 already, 1 today, 1 tomorrow, and 1 the morning after) before Thanksgivings.

Average first freeze for DFW - Nov 22

.UPDATE...
Temperatures came in colder behind the front than originally
anticipated. Significant drops in temperatures have now leveled out
slightly and an update was issued to reflect the change. Multiple
reports incoming of sleet in the Hill Country, and with lowered
temperatures, LLano and Burnet Counties have been added to the Winter
Weather Advisory. As of right now, we are still closely monitoring
Williamson, Travis, and Hays counties as these are still several
degrees above freezing.

Still just a (very) cold rain in NW Austin/Anderson Mill area. Starting to get a glaze on some surfaces like my grill.

I'm impressed with the amount of moisture this system has had. It's tough to see any weakening trend at the moment looking at radar.

I thought I heard some tinkling on the roof but I can't really see anything on the surface outside. It is one of those nights where there's some excitement about what could happen. :cold:

I'm starting to get a mix of rain and sleet in NW Austin. And what I swear look like some really small flakes. They're falling at a different speed than the rain/sleet.

Whatever the case, a true wintry mix.
