6.87" for DFW in October so far. This falls in line with the other El Nino Octobers that generally is 5+ month since 1990.

Re: Texas Fall 2023
I got 6.35 just yesterday and tonight.
Up to 7.82 for the week. For the month? 8.71, which shows how key this one event was. It’s most of the rain for the entire month.
Wow. It feels good after the prior rains not doing much for things like area ponds.
The neighborhood pond across the way was finally filling back up as of yesterday…Will see later when I go to work but likely flooding today.

Also, why do storms move so slow like this? It’s fascinating since usually they race through and you only get .20. This time, the line widened and kept redeveloping so the rain just poured.
Did the overnight jet help strengthen it?

Line of storms trained over the Llano river last night and really filled it up nicely, minor flood status. Same has moved east to over Pedernales, we'll see how much it helps Travis.

Re: Texas Fall 2023
Over 7" last night over the Llano R. Now raining over Pedernales, and pouring here in East Austin. Had enough for now here, thank you very much. Can't help feeling so much here in town is wasted, needs to fall West. This here is mostly going to run off right into the lower Colorado.

My guess would be lack of steering at the higher levels.
Usually there a big system helping drives these through.
I could be way off......

Avery Tomasco this morning on KEYE said the Llano River was in flood stage and crested, and that wave of water is heading to Travis (15 million gallons per minute). He said that wave should bump up Travis a few FEET, which is kind of amazing considering how large an area Travis is. Of course we need several more of these events in the watershed west of here to get it to average level.

Re: Texas Fall 2023
Didn't have anything at the house overnight, but started raining around 5:30 this morning. Got to work in north Austin, it's been POURING here for a solid 30 minutes! Grass and trees outside my window are puddles, and a pond in the parking lot.

Yeah, looks like it crested in Llano around 6:55 AM; that'll take a while to get to Travis. Hoping for similar along the Pedernales but doesn't seem to be happening. Will take a lot more of these events to "fix" the drought.

Re: Texas Fall 2023
Happy that a bunch of y'all are getting some great rains.
Here in Longview, I had 0.09" on Monday and nothing since. I'm sitting at 2.83" for the month, mostly from one good rain a few weeks ago. Still seeing too many long stretches without beneficial rain. Hopefully we get an inch or two over the course of today through Monday, where we have a 30%-70% chance of rain each day.

Austin getting "Houston weather" this morning with rain and some brief, tropical tornadic spin-ups. Tornado spotted near Mustang Ridge around 8:20 am, about 10 miles south of the airport. Haven't had any reports of damage or anything.

South Texas Storms wrote:bubba hotep wrote:Widespread 4-6"+ totals across DFW for this event![]()
It looks like 9"+ down around Glen Rose and some big totals across the Edwards Plateau. Overall, a pretty significant rain event for Texas to kickstart us into the rest of Fall and Winter.
Yeah...about that last sentence...still waiting on widespread heavy rain across south central Texas. Looks like north TX hogged it all again
Doesn’t look like we’re gonna get much of anything here in southeast TX either.

Northern portions of DFW might not get out of the 40's during the first part of next week and a freeze can't be ruled out.

Arbuckle Reservoir south of Wharton was just built to capture some of that runoff. It will serve the rice growers and replace much of the water that had been contractually required to be released from Lake Travis.

That sounds right.
I think the low was hanging back, and without the usual front we have driving this on, there was no reason for it to move. Maybe?
And it looked like the WPC said the amount of moisture coming in from the hurricane and the Gulf was enormous and combined to just let the storms continue.
FWD said the PW was at super-high levels yesterday.
Also, checked that pond nearby. It is full and then some today after being really low a few weeks ago.
