SEVERE WINTER WEATHER

#1 Postby WXBUFFJIM » Sun Apr 06, 2003 8:01 am

Good morning. Winter storm warnings are in effect now for Nebraska and Iowa. Davenport and the Quad Cities is included in that warning. A strong February like storm system will plow into the midwest later today into tonight. Cold high pressure moving in from the north will bring down the cold air needed to generate a significant late season midwest snowstorm. Already reports of thundersnow in southern Nebraska this morning and much more is expected to be on the way for Iowa and eventually into northern Illinois where a winter storm watch is in effect for Chicago and now Detroit. Snowfall accumulation will range from 8-12 inches in Davenport and the Quad Cities, 6-9 inches in Chicago, and 4-8 inches in Detroit with 6-9 inches in Toledo, OH.

Timing brings snow through the quad cities and chicago tonight into tomorrow AM, Detroit tomorrow AM through the early afternoon, and eventualy farther east.

By tomorrow the storm will develop into a coastal off the mid atlantic coast. Snowfall amounts of 9-12 inches is expected in north central Pennsylvania tomorrow. 5-8 inches in Allentown, 3-6 inches in New York and Boston, more northwest of those cities. 1-3 inches of snow is possible in Philadelphia with 2-4 inches in York and Harrrisburg, PA for Monday. Winter is not over yet in areas east of the Mississippi. Wow and it's April 6th, 2003 on the calender. Wild stuff.

Something to watch..... Winter storm warnings for the northwest suburbs of philly, north of dc and baltimore, and in NYC.

6-10 inches sounds good for Allentown, New York City, and Caldwell. 1-3 inches in Philly and maybe 1 inch or less in Baltimore and DC and points north and west.
