Severe Weather Summary
Severe Weather in the Nation's Midsection
The warm front, the leading edge of the 60s dew points, has pushed to near southern Nebraska and northern Missouri this morning. Later today, this warm front will push toward the western Great Lakes. The surface pressures will lower today in the Plains; daytime heating will destabilize the atmosphere. Another short wave, or upper-level disturbance, will track toward the middle of the country. CAPE values are expected to reach 2,000 j/kg in eastern Kansas later today, with lifted indices bottoming out at -4 to -6. The area from the northeast corner of Texas, through eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas, northward to easternmost Nebraska, Iowa and northwestern Illinois will have the risk of strong to severe thunderstorms, especially this afternoon and tonight. The main threats are large hail and damaging wind gusts.
