Severe Weather Potential Along the Gulf Coast..

An upper-level low is over Oklahoma this morning; surface low over northern Texas. The upper level system will open up and track eastward, ending up over Arkansas later today; the surface low will likely head due east. The area from southeast Texas, around Houston, all the way east Pensacola, Florida, seems most likely for severe weather in the next 24 hours. There is a surge of dew points in the 60s; cape values are expected to be generally between 1,500 and 2,000 j/kg. A disturbance rotating around the upper low, and the daytime heating will be other ingredients coming together to fire up thunderstorms across east Texas; the severe weather threat will extend into Louisiana later today and early tonight, and tonight as far east as the western Florida panhandle. The main severe weather threats are damaging wind gusts and large hail.
