Squall line approaching DFW

#1 Postby gboudx » Thu Mar 04, 2004 2:54 pm

From looking at this radar:

Do you think the showers and t-storms developing ahead of the squall line will help to decrease the intensity of the squall line by stabilizing the atmosphere?

If they can form into discrete cells themself... they may be where the tornadoes actually form.

You mean the t-storms developing ahead of the squall line? I can understand that. Just curious if the squall line will tend to decrease in intensity with the shower activity ahead of it. Earlier, there was severe t-storm and tornado warnings up and down the line. That area is shrinking as it approaches DFW and moves into the area with the developing rain showers.

The squall line would be more of a damaging wind threat than tornado threat if the cells out in front can get established.

Thanks! That might explain why we're seeing less tornado warnings. But it only takes 1. I lived in Dallas area when Ft. Worth had a tornado rip through it a few years ago.

The front has pushed through Tarrant County now, we had small pea size hail with 50 to 60 mph wind gust. The sky has lightened up and we have light to mod rain falling. There was not much lightening with the storms. things will start to quite down from Ft Worth westward now.

Dealey Plaza has nearly vanished from the cam shots.
