Temple tornado appears to have done quite a bit of damage to the far west side from west of 317 in a SE direction about 3 miles, including businesses along West Adams west of Walmart. Possible EF2 or maybe even 3 damage. Newer, though not high end, homes destroyed but the walls mostly held up. This 2-story with the top intact but the bottom walls all collapsed is weird, 3rd pic is more typical of the damage there:

More storms heading toward Temple area this morning. Some areas between Dallas and Austin must have exceeded their yearly rainfall totals already. Like a broken record with the storm paths the last month or so.

Had a supercell develop overhead yesterday in Longview. Didn't get super strong though. Marble size hail at my house. Ended up with another 1.96" of rain.

It’s always raining where you live.

SPC says outflow may lower chances over DFW and OK.

I don’t see any obvious boundaries, but no shocker there.

Might be kind of a hot take but I think Saturday is looking even more concerning than 5/6. What held 5/6 back was trough orientation and poor lapse rates, neither of which seem to be an issue with Saturday. Most models (so far) seem to have a well timed trough with the left exit region perfectly positioned over the threat area.

I think the only concerns for Saturday now are capping and timing of convection, but with an environment like currently shown I would be surprised if we end up with a cap bust.

Now of course its still Day 3 so I'm not saying this is going to end up being a high risk event since things can still change but as of now I would be surprised if we don't see at least a 15# moderate at some point. We'll see what CAMs have tonight.

Sorry guys. I was trying to give updates and whatnot since I was basically live-TV news but weather gods decided no power or service for me.

Along West Adams (mainly west of Walmart like Freeze noted) there’s a lot of EF-2 damage like trees thrown, structures partially collapsing and even tiny parts of the road being missing. Traffic isn’t actually that bad since a lot of businesses and schools in the area called off or are already out for summer.

I live about half a mile away and here it’s pretty much EF-0 to really low EF-1 damage (roof tiles thrown, some trees destroyed, sometimes glass broken/fences collapsing.)

I don’t know of any injuries or casualties yet but there are several collapsed buildings down the road and I heard a lot of EMS sirens throughout the night.

Praying for those working hard to fix our city as we work through one of our worst tornadoes in years.

Summer's for hibernation, Winter’s my vacation

Please don't use my posts as forecast, I'm a complete meteorology noob! I just like cold weather, alright?

DFW was short changed out of 90*F yesterday, but it did get there today, overachieving several degrees above the forecast high thanks to a significant break in the cloud cover this afternoon and the mixing down of dewpoints under the outflow bubble.

That's the 9th day this season and the 8th day this month.

Looks pretty safe for DFW in the recent mesoanalysis. Outflow has stabilized things.

But for tonight

Image

Mesoscale Discussion 0920
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0935 PM CDT Thu May 23 2024

Areas affected...Southeastern Oklahoma and north central Texas near
the Red River

Concerning...Severe potential...Watch possible

Valid 240235Z - 240400Z

Probability of Watch Issuance...40 percent

SUMMARY...Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop across
portions of north central TX and far southern/southeastern OK near
the Red River through late tonight.

DISCUSSION...Recent radar imagery shows an area of ascent slowly
lifting northeastward out of north central TX. This ascent is
located near the nose of deeper theta-e advection via a LLJ, on the
southern fringe of a residual cold pool, and is likely associated
with isentropic ascent. RAP forecast soundings over the next few
hours suggest the developing convective environment will support
storm organization, with effective shear around 50 kt. These
thunderstorms should remain relatively elevated, rooted around 850
mb or so, and MUCAPE is expected to be around 3500 J/kg. Isolated
large hail up to 1.50-2.50" in diameter may accompany any of the
more discrete updrafts that manage to develop through late tonight.
Convective trends will be monitored for a possible watch.

..Barnes/Thompson.. 05/24/2024

So after having those intense storms stew all day just south of DFW, we now see brand new intense storms blow up just north of DFW. But somehow, DFW itself still manages to dodge any real activity.

What a season...
