Heat Advisory - Lincoln, NE

Temperatures will climb into the 97 to 103 degree range across the area this afternoon. The heat index... or what the temperature actually feels like when temperature and relative humidity are combined... will climb also.

Heat indices should range from 100 to 105 across northeast and central Nebraska and much of southwest Iowa... with heat indices from 103 to 108 across southeast Nebraska today. Heat index values of this magnitude can cause sunstroke... heat cramps and heat exhaustion with prolonged exposure and/or physical activity.

If outdoors this afternoon... it is important to take frequent breaks... wear lightweight clothing... and drink plenty of fluids. Use plenty of sunscreen and remember... direct sunlight can increase the heat index by 10 to 15 degrees.

Unfortunately... the heat will continue with similar readings expected on Monday afternoon... especially across southern portions of Nebraska and across southwest Iowa. Very hot temperatures should linger into Tuesday along and south of Interstate 80.

Significant relief to the heat is on the way. A cold front is expected to move south of the region by the end of the week. Highs by Friday are forecast to be in the upper 70s to lower 80s. These mild temperatures are then expected through next weekend

We have the same thing here in Topeka, even hotter, yet just a "Special Weather Statement". What's up with that? Seems like it has to be 115° with a 140 HX for a Heat Advisory!
