I checked the 911 reports and there are 2 commercial fires and 1 residential fire which i would guess are related to lightning strikes. Make that 3 commercial fires now.
There's traffic signal malfunctions and wire hazards in the same area.Soggy South

Wow! Some heavy duty thunderstorms coming up from the gulf in Texas and Louisiana. Here locally, rain was coming down at 3 1/2"/hour for an unfinished total of 1.38", heavy lightning and lots of thunder.

CM, the power was out on Verot School road a short while ago and I noticed some tree limbs down in that area. That sure was a vicious storm! Seems like we're into a June-like pattern as opposed to August when it typically starts to dry out and heat up. I'm not complaining considering how dry the summer was, things haven't looked greener since the spring around here!
Just wondering if we're going to see any late summer gulf activity (i.e. a tropical storm that dumps a ton of rain). Mother nature always balances herself out.

Yup, my electricity was out for I don't know how long yesterday. Also across town at my kids former high school, the cat5 wire from outside into the building was fried when lightning struck the pole it was on. The wire was fried all the way into the building. Luckily there wasn't a fire. Only one computer was lost.

Hallelujah! We finally got a decent rain! It's been SO dry,
here. All of the thunderstorm "chances" have bounced
around us, for the past several weeks. The dust has been
flying. My rain gauge was incapacitated by the nephew's
weedeater, but, the puddles in the drive say, "Yes! Good
enough!"

In Atlanta: June 1 - Aug. 23 rainfall 24.21 inches
My northwest Atlanta suburb has actually received about 30 inches in that time. The Atlanta reading was measured south of Atlanta in Peachtree City.
And....with Katrina coming, they're now saying 4-7" more.
We need more rain here like a fish needs a bicycle!
