Backwards Tornado

#1 Postby Nalora » Wed May 14, 2003 9:59 am

Well, once again on local news here in Oklahoma City we got to see something most folks will never see.

David Payne (my fav. meteorologist and storm chaser extraordinaire)
http://www.kfor.com/Global/story.asp?S= ... L62V8T2Vvq
caught on tape a BACKWARDS tornado! 70 minutes of it apparently too! We got to see it on the news last night. I checked News 4 site to see if they put a piece of that on their web page but alas...a no go.

Tonight they are going to show us:

Coming Up on NewsChannel 4
at 10:00 pm: See an odd looking truck that's built to drive inside a tornado. A steel beast that will take it's passengers into the eye of the storm. Get a tour of the fearless machine tonight at 10.

On average, about 1 in 1000 tornadoes ever spin anticyclonically. (Usually these do not count satellite vorticities - tornadoes spinning around a parent tornado).

A very rare occasion indeed.
