To illustrate how remarkable the warmth was across portions of New York State where the biggest departures from normal occurred, Syracuse had a high temperature of 70°. That tied that city's all-time January high temperature and demolished the daily record of 53° set on 1/8/1965. Even more remarkable, Syracuse had a mean temperature that was 42° above normal.

Syracuse's 70° January days were as follows:
1/25/1950: High: 70°; Low: 39°; Mean: 54.5°
1/25/1967: High: 70°; Low: 41°; Mean: 55.5°
1/8/2007: High: 70°; Low: 59°; Mean: 64.5°
The 59° minimum temperature was the warmest minimum temperature on record for January. The old record was 56°, which occurred on January 15, 1995.
As for southern Ontario, Toronto established a daily record high temperature of 60° (15.5°C). Toronto's minimum temperature of 52° (11.3°C) was the warmest minimum reading on record for January. The old record was 46° (8.0°C), which occurred on January 31, 1988.
