NWS Miami discussion-stats on warmth and says hit the beach!

#1 Postby jinftl » Fri Jan 12, 2007 9:13 pm

Excerpt from latest NWS Miami discussion...even they seem amazed at the continuation of December's warmth up till what is now mid-Janaury!

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MIAMI FL
900 PM EST FRI JAN 12 2007

...WARM JANUARY CONTINUES...

.UPDATE...RIPS WERE REPORTED ALL ACROSS THE ATLANTIC BEACHES
TODAY...AND THESE WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE WEEKEND DUE TO A
PERSISTENT AND BRISK EASTERLY WIND FLOW. THIS IS THE MAJOR WX-RELATED CONCERN THROUGH THE WEEKEND...ESPECIALLY SINCE IT WILL BE A WARM ONE WITH MANY PEOPLE AT THE BEACHES.

THE WEATHER PATTERN THROUGH ABOUT THE MIDDLE PART OF NEXT WEEK WILL CHANGE LITTLE...WITH A RIDGE AT ALL LEVELS DOMINATING WX ACROSS SOUTH FLORIDA. TEMPS TODAY AVERAGED 6-9 DEGREES ABOVE AVG AT ALL OF THE MAJOR REPORTING SITES...AND THIS TREND WILL CONTINUE THROUGH ABOUT NEXT WEDNESDAY...SO THE WARM JANUARY CONTINUES ON.

JUST TO HIGHLIGHT HOW WARM THIS MONTH HAS BEEN...THE AVG LOW AT FORT LAUDERDALE IS 59...YET LOWS HAVE BEEN 70 OR ABOVE 10 OF THE PAST 12 DAYS...AND THE FCST IS FOR LOWS OF 70F OR ABOVE EACH OFTHE NEXT 4 DAYS!

AT MIAMI...LOWS OF 70 OR ABOVE OCCURRED 9 OF THE
PAST 12 DAYS.

NEXT COLD FRONT COULD SLIP THROUGH THE AREA BY
WEDNESDAY...BRINGING SOME COOLER WX TO THE AREA. /GREGORIA

South Florida - Winter blowtorch to dominate rest of winter

#2 Postby Burn1 » Sat Jan 13, 2007 12:30 am

Florida looks to be in for the same rest of the winter....

Night time lows an incredible 15 degrees above normal...Day time highs anywhere from 8 to 10 degrees above normal.....

Probably will not see much if any in the way of below average temps...

Actually summer temps looking to be way above normal which will not bode well for what is to be an el nino-less hurricane season.....Not good!!

Did not, but glad we are in agreement......

Actually most counties in S. Florida recorded the warmest December on record....At this rate they will also do the same for Jan......

i was thinking the same thing, a few model runs ago hinted to snow down the core of the state with a cold front coming in.
