Wow, that's amazing.
Is this statement true though?
--
"The Earth is recalibrating itself: Last year, we had a cold winter, and it's balancing itself out now. In January, it feels like the middle of April."
--
I remember last Winter being pretty warm, except for a couple of cold snaps in February.

I believe last January was the warmest on record for the United States. I don't know how he is calling last winter a cold one, because that is pretty much a completely false statement (the doorman was probably just thinking of the large snowfall in Feb.). When it is all averaged out, last winter was above normal. The only real "cold" periods were early and middle December and then parts of February.micah_R wrote:Wow, that's amazing.

As for this winter so far...it really all depends on where you live. In the east it has been very warm, in the west it has been cold and in the plains they have gone back and forth (warmer north than south). As for myself in Texas though, this winter is certainly not a "warm" one. We have had multiple freezes so far and lately highs have been running at or below average. It has been more "seasonable" here than anything else when compared to averages. There have been some warm periods, and some cold ones, but most of time we have seemed to fall somewhere in between (certainly not as warm as last January).
I expect this January/February to be remembered as a cold one for the U.S. though when it is all said and done. If the things I am hearing are true, then a major blast of cold air could sweep across the nation sometime next week or the week after and the cooler air could stick around.

Keep in mind, that comment was said by a doorman. Unless he's a professional met who's working 2 jobs, I don't know if you can take that with much credibility.
I guess it's possible a professional met is a frequent visitor to where he's a doorman, and he just picked up that idea.
Or maybe he's just nuts.

Like they didn't make enough money on us LAST year!
Everything has a way of balancing out though...
Who's the "doorman" that made that statement??
I am SHOCKED that it's been that long since the last time NYC had no snow in November and December.
I still have a feeling we're going to pay for this in someway...

As a business owner who depends on natural disasters and foul weather, I can assure you this is true. Our friends run a propane company, and they don't like warm weather either.
We may hate it, but we do have a heart and are at least pleased that so many of you are having lower bills. I'm personally thankful that no icy weather has hit the deep south to cause traffic accidents. Plus, a properly managed business will not be stressed by some warm weather.
We don't complain. We adapt.

This winter sure does suck, we need a cold blast, everyone here at both jobs is getting sick either with a hideous cold (I have a real bad one, lost 3/4 of my hearing so far and still suffering from it)or they have a stomach virus. We need the cold to kill all this crap!
Only good thing about tomorrow's high is that the Mummers will march, woohoo!
Sick or not I'm going to go see my stringbands!!!

Have a WONDERFUL time angelwing at the Mummers and the Eagles game! You have a busy weekend setup.
The only thing I don't like in the Mummer's Parade are the comics. They all dress and look the same.
I still think we're going to pay for this nice weather. I just hope that the daffodils, crocus, etc. that are peeking out right now get damaged for the spring later.

Thank you Stephanie:) Parade delayed 2 hours so heading to Broad street in about a half hour (I can't stand the comics myself) then once the bands are done, it's Two Street to party till about 3AM with a bunch of my hubby's friends who are in Fralinger, Ferko & Quaker City (his dad was a mummer 53 years, his brother 40, he was for about 30 years, I've been mummerizied)...I'm gonna be in great shape for the game tomorrow, lolol!
