Latest first snow on record!

#1 Postby azsnowman » Mon Jan 16, 2006 3:44 pm

FINALLY......SNOW!! At least
I THINK it's snow

Not much mind you but non
the less SNOW! According to
the NWS in Flagstaff, this
is the LATEST first snow
on record!

Phoenix on the other hand
did NOT receive ANY rain
and they're heading for the
longest dry streak EVER...tomorrow
makes 90 days without
moisture! 2002 was the driest
year in "500 years" and this winter
of 2005-2006 is DRIER than 2002!!

Keep up the prayers!!

You got that right, Dennis! No rain in Phoenix at all. Some say they had some sprinkles...but not even any pockmarks on the dusty patio table, so nothing, but nothing here!

You are also right...the last measurable rain was .85" on October 17-18th...and even THAT followed .02" as a total for September.

So indeed it is dusty dry here so far.

I figure the Phoenix FBR Open golf tourney is the next best shot on Super Bowl weekend. Seems to rain or snow on that huge gallery at least one or two days out of the weekend!!!

Here's a photo of the only clouds to wander by on Sunday morning when rain was predicted. The darkest bank of clouds are above the peak in the near distance which, by the way, is looking northeastward toward Pinetop!!!

Saw that on TWC, this morning, while getting ready for work, Dennis, and,
I thought about you!

The news only gets worse,
yes....there's a slight chance
for snow showers again but as this
AFD suggests, just a dusting!

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/fgz

FOR THURSDAY A FAST MOVING SHORTWAVE TROUGH WILL MOVE ACROSS ARIZONA. THE AIR MASS WILL REMAIN QUITE DRY BUT TEMPERATURES ALONG THE TROUGH AXIS WILL BE SO COLD THAT SATURATION WILL BE ALMOST INEVITABLE. NET RESULT...ANOTHER DUSTING OF SNOW ON THURSDAY BUT THAT IS ABOUT IT. IT SHOULD ALSO BE FAIRLY BREEZY ON THURSDAY. FOR FRIDAY AND BEYOND DRY NORTHWEST FLOW CONTINUES. PERIODIC DISTURBANCES WILL BRING SOME INCREASES IN CLOUDS AND A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SNOW SHOWERS BUT NO BIG STORMS OR PATTERN CHANGES ARE LOOMING ON THE HORIZON.

This just DOWNRIGHT "SUCKS!"

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/fgz

THICKNESS VALUES SUPPORT A SNOW LEVEL IN THE 3500 TO 4500 RANGE BUT EVAPORATIONAL COOLING WILL LIKELY SET THE SNOW LEVEL SOMEWHAT LOWER THAN THE THICKNESS VALUES INDICATE. THE NET RESULT...A DUSTING OF SNOW FROM THE MOGOLLON RIM NORTHWARD TODAY. PRESSURE GRADIENTS WILL REMAIN STRONG ENOUGH FOR BREEZY CONDITIONS ACROSS THE AREA. OVER FAR EAST CENTRAL ARIZONA...GRADIENTS WILL BE STRONG ENOUGH FOR 20 TO 30 MPH WIND SPEEDS WITH GUSTS TO NEAR 40 MPH. FOR FRIDAY...A SHORTWAVE RIDGE IN THE MID TO UPPER LEVELS WILL BRING MAINLY CLEAR SKIES BUT NORTHERLY FLOW IN THE LOWER LEVELS WILL KEEP DAYTIME TEMPERATURES ON THE COOL SIDE AND THE WIND LOCALLY BREEZY. OVER THE WEEKEND AND INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK A MAINLY DRY NORTHWEST FLOW WILL CONTINUE. PERIODIC DISTURBANCES WILL BRING SOME INCREASES IN CLOUDS AND A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS. NO BIG STORMS OR PATTERN CHANGES ARE LOOMING ON THE HORIZON.
