This winter is odd in S FL

#1 Postby Scorpion » Thu Jan 12, 2006 8:13 pm

After a very warm start, January has left quite cold temps here so far. It has gotten into the 30's twice already, and this weekend could have one of the coldest nights so far. The forecast is for the upper 30's but its supposed to be quite windy out, so wind chills in the upper 20's to lower 30's can't be ruled out. I don't remember getting nearly as many cold shots last year or in 2004.

South Florida has been about the only location in the United States experiencing below average temperatures this January. You know January is messed up when that happens.

Yes there were some days(I think Sunday or Monday, but I am not sure) where south Florida had similar lows, if not lower, than a few areas in the northeast.

Yes, isn't that crazy? This is one strange January. I heard this could end up to be the warmest January in the nation's history. Of course, we still have half a month to go...

One would certainly appreciate Spring better when it arrives officially if Mother Nature got the Winter act together w/ the calendar.

This year it's more like...June-uary!

Actually, we are getting less colder air than what we have been getting in past years. Also, the cold temperatures have quickly rebounded in just one to two days in my area.

Very true....the cold shots have been quick hitting, and seem intense in comparison to the weather right before and right after...but these have really only been 48 hour or so cold snaps....a cool breezy day followed by a windy chilly night, then a cool but less windy day, another cool (but calm) night, then a quick warm up the next day.

Then again, this is South Florida, and the cold air usually doesn't take hold for long....

I have lived here 10 years and can say so far, none of these cool shots have been too remarkable or memorable (even a day or two after it warms up).
