Souther plains snowstorm tonight...

#1 Postby WaitingForSiren » Mon Jan 09, 2006 9:26 pm

Southern plains snowstorm tonight? Did anyone see this coming? I didnt even realize it was cold enough for snow that far south right now, as its only like 28 in MN today and typically you look for teens or lower here for snow that far south. Also, the models seemed to just come up with this snowstorm idea this afternoon. Crazy.

This thing just popped out of nowhere. I mean really, Oklahoma City only had a 20% chance of light rain or very light snow for tonight, issued this morning. All of the sudden, they are now under a snow advisory and could get 1 to 3 inches, which will help alot with the fire danger. Talk about a bust...

ya its snowing right now in Amarillo Texas... thats nothing unusaul.. the pandle of texas gets alot of snow every winter.. its been snowing in amarillo tx since 2:00 this afternoon... the panhandle of texas is the only place in texas that gets appreciable snowfall 20-30 inches every yr. along with a lot of ice in compared to the rest of the state... very high elevations (3000) feet cause considerable snow ever winter.. very early and late in he winter season too... snow probably wont make it to Oklahoma city though.. once the elevation lowers in Oklahoma it will change to rain, though its possible........

Let's pray and hope that will help relieve the fire situations in those parts of OK and TX.

I hope Oklahoma gets dumped on tonight. They really need it. The current acres burned is already more than the 5 year average!

WEll the cold front is past me, however there are lots of lightning strikes with very little in the way of rain. Just afraid of grass fires that might get started with a strike of lightning from a tree or the dry ground. Wind is strong out of the Northwest and could blow up sparks easily.
Doesn't look like it will give us much relief other than in the temps.

Well, we were supposed to get 2-5" of snow when I went to bed. Now it is an inch or less. At least we got some good rain out of the deal!!

Yeah I noticed the snowstorm was a bust. Too much warm air got wrapped in, but then again thats even better because warmer air=more precip, pretty much. Just not in snow form.
