I truly think winter is done

#1 Postby Planetsnow » Thu Jan 05, 2006 10:03 am

Based on what I'm hearing, looks like winter is over, folks. Only a couple more episodes of cold and snow, but overall, looks like an extended period of mid March to mid April temps coming up the rest of the winter.

This is so whacked. I hate this sh*t. Boy was everyone wrong about this winter! So much for seasonal forecasting!

I've lost all hope. Bring on Spring!

I feel your pain Brother.......winter in Arizona is only a dream, he**.......I'd give ANYTHING just to see a FRIGGIN' CLOUD!! Funny thing, last winter I was crying because I didn't see the sun for a 3 week stretch, now, I'd KILL to see a cloud, a snowflake, a RAINDROP would be nice too

Oh well.......there's ALWAYS next winter, only 10 more months till the FIRST snowfall of 2006 8-)

The only good news about this is our heating bills won't be so high. We keep our thermostat on 65 now. Last bill was $338.71. I was really dreading January's bill, based upon how cold early December was turning out to be! And now we're barely below freezing anymore.

All our snow melted up here in the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario. We had 3 feet thick on the lawns about two weeks ago. Ever since, it has just been raining and above freezing. This is usually when the worst of the snowstorms hit, early January to early February. There hasn't even been lake effect snow since very early December. First time I've ever seen this. Today is light rain and about 40F.

Well, I know, let's jinx ourselves. Everyone - tune up your lawnmowers, sharpen those spades, get out the gardening tools, seed packets, pack away your sweaters, pull out the summer wear clothes.....

Come on.....it'll be fun.....LOL

What's ironic is today is a wintery day - I'm wearing my lightweight thermals, under my corduroy pants!!!! Upper 30s, gray-gray snow filled looking sky. But nary a snowflake to be found.......

I'm not a climatologist/meteorologist or what not...

Does a warm winter mean a hot summer? Also, does it mean an active severe storm season, we already had one outbreak on the 2nd.

Wow, its like being back home in Britain and going on the British weather forums!

I have to agree, it's not really that great an outlook at the moment.

But didn't last January get off to a terrible start for winter weather here? And it did change quite quickly around mid month.

All i'm saying is...who knows? I'm from the UK..i am used to some giant weather let-downs...all is not lost!

Lawnmower at the ready though...

It seems like anytime somebody says warm or cold almost everybody on the forum instantly agrees. Just because one or two or even 100 people say the rest of the winter will be warm does not mean it will be. In fact, I have heard lots of people say that the winter will get colder in a few weeks. I think at this point it is really up to hoping for the best. The best for Texas would be RAIN! That's what we need the most. but a nice added twist would be for a little snow. still holding my hopes high. but if winter IS truely over, then I am going to get quite concerned about next hurricane season (because the waters will warm rapidly).

That's bad news down here. Usually I don't have to run the heater too much in the winter, obviously depending on just how cold it is. But it usually stays off between cold fronts yet it's mild enough not to have to run the A/C either - which is a lot more expensive than heat. So for a few months, I can usually escape those $300-$400+ bills. There are a lot of winter days where you can open windows and enjoy the cool breeze.

But my A/C has been running a lot lately, with temps in the 70's and 80's often. It kinda stinks to have a summer-like bill in January, but what can ya do?
Hope for a cold front maybe....a wet one. A lot of Texas desperately needs rain.

winter may be fading in the west, but from the rockies eastward, I think winter will be back in less than 2 weeks! By the week of the 16th, I would expect much of the central and eastern U.S. to cool to below or even well below normal. Stay tuned...

I disagree. I think that the central and eastern U.S. still has some cold weather to come. In 7-10 days a pattern may begin where the cold air in China (Coldest winter there in 20 years) seeps into Canada and then buckles south into areas of the plains, the east, NE and the southeast. For you in Florida, I have a feeling your coldest days are yet to come, and the same MAY be true for many others as well. We will have a better idea of this next week and next weekend.

I bet you'll start seeing some more folks talking up colder weather for most of the nation by Monday or Tuesday. It's looking colder according to the euro starting around 1/14/06.

Cold air is coming and snow with it for many by the 17th time frame. The winter is over threads get so old, just like those who said Tropical season is over and look at that forecast bust. There is a lot of real cold air, it has not gotten here yet, it will. With that said, I had 18.7 this morning on the patio. Charlotte officically at 22. That is a pretty cold jolt for a warm pattern.

News Flash: Winter only began 17 days ago. I'd hardly call the season over right now.

In 15 days, this thread will look quite silly...

1992-1993 was a mild winter. And you know what happened in March of 93. All this talk of winter being over is aggravating because of the overflowing ignorance that people show towards history.

It WILL snow again.

We just had possibly the coldest December I can remember, yet one week into January and winter is over? Oh yeah, the several inches of snow still on the ground are just an illusion I guess. Honestly, I've seen much worse than this.

This thread should be locked its material so ignorant. (no offense)
