Bob...What have you heard about next winter? I find it very amazing that the Pacific NW, and the SE both got so ripped off on snow this winter. Very strange indeed. Maybe next winter the midwest and NE will get the shaft and our areas will be hit!
So far, I have heard that the experts expect next winter to be quite severe in some parts of the country. Given the recent trends of very negative PNA and AO values, I would expect the west to get hit, but then again that sure didn't happen this winter, like it should have. We have been unable to get both indices negative at the same time.
Have you found that there have been many times this winter that just a very fine detail or two did not go your way for snow, or did you just get missed TOTALLY. In the Seattle area, we have had no less than a half dozen times where we should have gotten clobbered, but one stupid detail ruined it every time. In our case the bottom of the offshore ridge blew out just before the Arctic air could arrive. That results in the Arctic air going out over the ocean and being wasted. The same blasted thing every stinkin time!

hey that just goes to show you that the centrel us and south centrel us gets colder and snowier then the mid atlantic and southeastern U.S in the heart of the winter when 12 inches 1 foot of snow fell in victoria tx and 12 inches of snow fell in corpuschristi in deep south tx and 1 or 2 fell in brownsville located at the very southern tip of tx brownville has the same latitute as miami florida and victoria has the same latitude as tampa florida miami and tampa rarely get below 40 and i know theres never been snow reported. In Sanantonio it usually snows once a yr. it snowed 15 inches there in 1 snow storm the biggest snow storm in south texas history.san antonio has the same latitude as orlando and and i know theyve never reported any snow. snow doesnt stick around too long in south tx it melts in 2 or 3 days usually. same thing up north minneapolis and boston are the same latitude and minneapolis is much!!! colder then boston in the heart of the winter dec. jan. and early feb. kansas city and richmond virginia kc. is much colder then northern virginia in the heart of the winter.

Just to let you know: Winter in the central plains this year was very bland indeed-Lawrence/Kansas City had a few cold shots and lots of rain-we have had 14 inches of snow (9 of that before Thanksgiving in a once every 10 years back lash event and most of the rain was from 2 events in Jan.)-that is 10 inches below normal. The Midwest-areas North and East of St. Louis did ok, but most of that (accept of course the Great Lakes) was from one storm in December. Basically, the North East and Great Lakes had the winter this year-so, the central plains suffered a bland winter just as much as anyone else!! Just trying to put a little perspective on things-even the Northern Plains has had a pretty bland winter accept for about one week.
