Lawrence Kansas Storm 2
Again, Dare I get excited?????? 2 concerns: 1. warm air again-will this storm track same way as last weekend debacle? 2. Dry slot-seems to happen here. Models look good and I must say, the satelite imagery looks much better than last storm-this one seems more organized and actually is already spilling snow into Southern Kansas as we speak-National radar shows a pretty good swath of precip developing and it is heading North east. I'm still afraid-glad I am not a met and have to make a call-what an overall thankless job trying to please the masses!! Must say, that this storm looks alot better than last one at this stage. Currently-clouds increasing-temp 21 with east wind. Forecast from NWS is for 6-9 inches-again, we are progged to have our biggest single event in a decade (David in Topeka had his Sunday and will get more!!) However, with clouds and only down to 21, we will warm quite a bit tonight-hold on-here we go!!!

Quick update here: I'll quit posting my observ. in the Kansas storm 2 thread!!! Temp. droped 3 degrees-but, there is a swath of precp. rapidly developing to my south west heading north east-you can really see it on the Whicita radar-not sure if all of it is reaching the ground, but it is a good start. Also, the national radar loop really shows the precip rotating around the low out in Nevada!! This storm could actually happen??? Looks much better than the last storm-still concern for warm air invading upper levels then lower levels and the dry slot-but now, I'm getting excited!!!!

NWS out of KC (NWS server having massive troubles tonight!!!) has really backed off-even considering cancelling WSW for the area-says storm will come out in pieces not all together and not much lift on latest model runs-guess NWS Topeka will follow next and possibly pull down the WSWarning???? Shows you how much I know-I thought the storm looked pretty impressive-Guess I should stick to Latin-Oh well, snow is heading towards me-getting closer to Emporia!!!

Starting to get snow fluries in Lawrence-all the precip. on the radar last night never reached the ground-well the atmosphere is saturated, but the radar is pretty spotty-looks like we will have bands move through as the day wears on-storm may be going too far south-we shall see-still have winter storm warning from noon on today-KC under winter weather advisory-still too tough to call right now. Have a great day!!

Kind of surprised NWS in Topeka has kept Douglas County in WSwarning-I expect them to drop to Winter Weather advisory later today-storm is comming out in too many parts and not one solid shot-places South like Whichita and Emporia will prob. get 6-9 inches-I figure Lawrence 1-3 possibly 4-seems like all the bands really break apart before they get here-we'll see-I could be flat out wrong-I hope so!!! Sunday storm went to my North/West and too much warm air-today, not enough lift and power to the storm and it goes to the south!! Some day, prob. not this winter, I will get nailed with 6-10 inches of snow-when I do, I'll be updating about every flake!! LOL!!! Have a good day!! I'm currently in Kansas City at work-I should be grading papers and preparing for class, but what the hey-the Industrial Revolution and Caesar aren't going any where! KC just in Winter Weater Advisory with expected 1-2 inches of accumilation.

Well, Lawrence and Kansas City are in a big whole with precip all around them-Lawrence is now looking at 2-4 inches tops-if that-we are getting dry slotted pretty bad-the precip bands are falling apart before they reach this area (including Kansas City-suns out in KC currently!!!) -Folks south west and south east of the area and areas to the north will get some good snows by the looks of the radar-the drought just persists!!!!! Someday, it will all come together!! Oh well, I have snow on the ground and it will be cold this weekend so it is still better than the past 2 winters-combined!!! Have a great day!!

Update from Lawrence-been snowing now for about 2-2 and half hours-light to moderate-prob. have about 1 inch to 1 inch and half. Radar not looking too good after this first batch moves through-supposed to get 5 inches, but I doubt it-already looks like it is winding down for here-we'll see what tonight brings!! Hopefully the storm will kick up some more-the snow is very dry-not alot of moisture with it-we had snow all day on radar that was not reaching the ground. Yea David, there was a huge hole from Topeka to Kansas City today-what else is new!!!! But, I don't think alot of that was even reaching the ground. Oh, we also have a pretty stiff east wind blowing, so the sorm is still to our west. I'll update later!!!

You know I was thinking as I was watching the beautifull snow fall-as disapp. as I've been the past 72 hours with the bust of last weekend (I got 4 inches, but was forecast 14!!) and all the snow today that never reached the ground, and while places to my south west and south east will recieve more snow than me tonight, I have nothing to complain about. I have more snow on the ground than I have had since December of 2000 and it will be here for at least a week. Furthermore, we have only gone above freezing (of course it was hideous time to do so!!) for about 5 hours in the past 2 weeks-I have had a great stretch of winter-could it have been better-sure, but, at least people here now realize again that we do have winter in the central plains!!! When we finally do warm up, prob. end of next week, it will be tough for winter to restablish itslef-but hey, maybe we will get one more storm between now and March-and if we don't, hey I've got almost got 15 inches of snow this year-biggest snow year since 2000!! I'm going to now stare out at our nice light to moderate snow and enjoy it!! Of course, I'll bore you with more updates later!!!
