The Snow and Ice Woes Continue in the East By

The complex storm systems that have plagued the Midwest, Southeast and mid-Atlantic states with snow and ice will continue today.

Freezing rain and freezing drizzle across western Pennsylvania, southwestern Upstate New York and southeastern lower Michigan Tuesday morning will end as a period of snow Tuesday. Snow will accumulate 1-3 inches. Roads will be icy and hazardous this morning, then become snow covered. Meanwhile, freezing rain and freezing drizzle will continue in the Carolinas, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, southeastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey Tuesday, making roads icy and travel hazardous. The ice will end as a period of snow late Tuesday and then accumulate 1-3 inches Tuesday night.

Snow across Upper Michigan, northern and western lower Michigan and Indiana Tuesday will accumulate 1-3 inches with up to 6 inches across southwestern and northeastern Lower Michigan. Rain will end as a period of snow from west to east across Ohio, Kentucky, northeastern Tennessee, southwestern Virginia, and West Virginia Tuesday. Snow will accumulate 1 to perhaps 3 inches.

Snow across central and northeastern Pennsylvania, northern New Jersey, and across central and southeastern New York (including NYC and Long Island) Tuesday will accumulate another 1-3 inches. The snow will become heavier across these areas and spread across Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts Tuesday night. The snowfall totals across northeastern Pennsylvania will average 3-6 inches but as much as a foot of snow is possible in the Pocono Mountains. The heavy snow across central and southeastern New York (NYC and LI included), northern New Jersey, southern Connecticut and southern Rhode Island will accumulate a total of 6-12 inches with up to 18 inches possible in the Lower Hudson Valley (north of NYC but south of Albany) and in southwestern Connecticut. Snow across Massachusetts, northern Connecticut and northern Rhode Island Tuesday night will accumulate at least 1-3 inches with up to 6 inches across southern Massachusetts, northern Connecticut, and northern Rhode Island.

Finally, in the West the snow will continue in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California Tuesday into Tuesday night with least 3-6 inches of new snow and as much as a foot of snow above 7,000 feet. The snow will also continue in the Cascades of Washington and Oregon Tuesday and accumulate another 6-12 inches. Snow will also fall across eastern Washington, central and eastern Oregon, northern Nevada, Idaho, Utah, western Wyoming, western and northern Montana and in the mountains of northern Colorado and south-central Wyoming Tuesday. The snow in these areas will accumulate at least 1-3 inches with up to 6 inches in the mountains of northeastern Oregon, northern Idaho, western Montana, western Wyoming and central Utah.
