Predominantly a rain event for this weekend in the OV

#1 Postby Buckeye » Wed Jan 21, 2004 11:22 am

GFS really erodes out the cold air for this weekends event. Even though it depicts a low moving through KY, generally a good snow route for us here in OH, there is nothing to keep the cold air locked in. As a result it looks like all rain for KY and a mix to rain for most of IN and OH, north of that it's a sharp cutoff on the precip. Areas east may do better because of cad setup.

Put away the snow shovels folks; break out the Umbrellas and galoshes lol :) :)

Time to start dreaming of spring and soft breezes.

Only 7 more weeks to go!!!! :)

Buckeye - your area has had the absolute worst luck with snow events this winter. I hope you get buried under a 2 foot+ snowstorm before winter ends.

I am not sold on that GFS solution just yet Buckeye. For one That cold air does get kinda eroded a little to quick imo and add to that may have a little snow already on the ground up this way as well which should help hold the temps down some.

Well just looking at the new 18z eta its looking a little colder and more so then the 12z gfs.

Either way i suspect the mixed zone should get no farther north then i70.

Will have more on this in a short bit. But dont give up hope yet Buckeye. I think this is our time comming up in the next couple of weeks. Past simular patterns to the one were comming into favor it.

The 18z GFS and prior runs have been quite errorneous with SFC/500mb depictions ...

90 hours ... does this really make sense? 500mb vort in West TN with SFC feature in W KY, and the 500mb vort in MT, with the SFC LOW in SE NE???

Good point SF. I for one think this is a excellent example of what i am saying. I suspect this will be fixed in future runs and wil end up showing what should be a true track which should bode well for snowlovers in this area for a change. Expect a little southward trend with the low feature which should help garuntee a all snow event for most of this area keeping the rn/sn/mixed crap further south into southern OH and Northern KY and mainly snow from about i70/Columbus north.

What Happen?!?! You Want a BLIZZARD!

I want a Blizzard, but I am beginning to face up to the dominant north trend this winter. The North Trend is NOT the Mid Atlantic's friend.

I want a blizzard, but I am beginning to face up to reality. I now believe the Mid Atlantic will see a few more cold days, certainly a few flurries, maybe a half-inch to inch accumulation at some point this winter, but I have finally come to the conclusion that this is a very cold but snowless winter for the Mid Atlantic. Thus, I am beginning to have my own personal pattern regression lol, I am beginning to look forward to Spring here.

That is something that I definately know WILL happen here.

The storms are all tracking north and there is nothing that can be done about it. Last winter all the storms tracked south and hit the Mid Atlantic. This winter, all the storms are tracking north and are missing the Mid Atlantic, or tracking north such that it warms up and we'll have rain.

Not every winter is the Mid Atlantic's. It's time that I face up to this fact. I am doing that now. I still want a blizzard, but that won't happen this winter in Virginia. Maybe next winter, but not this winter.

Contrary to popular belief and/or knowledge, I DO have other obsessive hobbies. Web design is one of them. Jebwalks on the summer beach is yet another. Just because the Mid Atlantic is not going to experience a significant snow this winter, does not mean that for me the world will come to an untimely end. I DO have other interests.

Tomorrow we hit 43 with rain showers. I saw weather.com predict snow flurries tomorrow for DC. That is wrong; it will be warm enough for rain. Sunday we will have occasional rain showers with highs around 43; Monday will be rainy with highs in the mid 50s. Sunday night's lows will be in the upper 30s. That means rain Sunday night.

Major accumulating snow just is NOT in the cards for the Mid Atlantic this winter; the pattern is not going to go that way this winter.

By the way, look for 1 to 2 feet of snow in the Midwest mid week. The Mid Atlantic will have showers and well-above freezing temps, even at night.

Let's accept this and begin to look forward to spring. I can't wait to see my first garden-variety thunderstorm.

I am stepping up to the plate.

I will be the very FIRST citizen in the Mid Atlantic region to step up, acknowledge that there will be no more significant snow this winter in the Mid Atlantic region................................and DARE to go on with my life.

We have been reading the models and the synoptic patterns and folks, we are seeing things that are just not there. We've got to face up to facts. Everytime we keep on saying that oh gosh, midweek there's gonna be a significant snow in the Mid Atlantic, we are in fact beating a dead horse.
We have long been beating a dead horse.
We need to bury this carcass and move on. The horse is dead; we need to move on and live our lives! Sunshine is wonderful! New growth in Spring is exciting!! Spring is excellent; it is only 7 weeks away!!!!

I am in fact, moving on with life, starting with today. It will be a little milder next week, and a degree or two milder the next week. Next thing ya know, March will be staring us in the face!!!

I am moving on. There is more to life than just snow! Even the people living in Atlantic Canada know this!

I am moving on!

Will you join me?! Really folks, it's not as bad as you think!!! :)
