For the first time I see a comparison
to January 2000. We will have a modest snow event late Wed/early Thurs with a clipper low moving northest and eventually off the Maine coast and becoming nearly stationary at that point-which is what happened back then. Back in 2000 the talk was that the next developing system, ala our late weekend one, would be shunted south. There were no weather bulletin boards then but our contention for the 2000 system was that the cold air was not high pressure driven, and thus not suppressive in nature, but low pressure driven from the departing clipper which stationed itself ne of Maine. I see a similiar, not identical, system and resultant set up which is yet another reason I still remain on board for a 4-5" snow event in DC late this weekend.

Re: For the first time I see a comparison
Weather, I hope your right, but, lemme tell you this. On January 25, 2000, we here in Fredericksburg received 15 inches of snow. If the GFS continues its warming trend, we will see 1.5 inches of rain. There was no question on cold air during that event, even Raliegh recorded a foot of snow, and by the look of things no model is hyping that much artic air. Trust me, I am always the optomistic of the bunch, but this far out and the trend of the models are NOT our friend at this point. Hopefully it turns around.
