ON the weekend storm..... could I get hosed any more?

#1 Postby Guest » Tue Jan 13, 2004 8:34 pm

The winter of amazing boredom continues.... here in central VA

If the the 18z GFS is right then I get 40s and rain.... North VO gets another good snow.

If the Euro is right parts of central NC and maybe NE NC and Norfolks gets 6 inches mayb 8 or 10''''

and I get P/sunny skies..... ROFTLMAO!!!

Not only will 79-80 not work out for me--- it might for SE VA and North NC-- but come march 15 I will be the only location NORTH of ATL- CLT and eastern of ILL than will be UNDER 25% of Normal snowfall....

even last winter--- the only location east of ILL and North of central GA that saw UNDER the Normal snowfall for the season--- the ONLY place--- RICHMOD VA.

Normal in 14-- we got 13".... yes I know there was a PD Blizzard in feb 2003-- well as some here know the whole storm there was this HUGE whole in the atmosphere over RIC-- the total QPF -- forecasted to be 2 to 4 Inches was 0.65"... total Ice and snow-- UNDER 4 inches of ice/ snow grains fell.

recall last yeat in the bitter cold of Jan a VERY strong clipper -- stronger than this one on wed night Thursday moved into NC and dropped 6 to 12 inches across MUCH of the state Including the Northern Outer Banks....

Believe me DT I feel your pain..................N VA is getting missed this season by even minor snows, let alone actually getting 6 or 9 or 12 inches.

Yep I feel your pain...........this will be the 2nd time in a row we will receive flurries or less. I woulda sold my neighbor just for 2 to 4 inches.

J/K about the neighbor..............but you can see how frustrated I feel.

You and I need to go to the "Screwed by Winter Storms Bar" and drink to our grief. Man I could use a 12-pack right about now.................I don't cry in my soup................I cry in my beer..........................

Here's to better luck with snow this winter..........................Cheers!!!!

Dt, here in Indiana we have gotten screwed all winter. I haven't even had 1 INCH YET! This upcoming storm for this weekend doesn't look to be promising for me at all either! Sigh!

DT:

I feel your pain as well-haven't had a good winter in North East Kansas since December 2000!! It has been in the 40's and 50's here for most of the winter accept for about 10 days scattered here and there. Oh well-2 small systems in December did give us equal snow to last year!! The weather will do what it will do-I just hope we at least get some rain this Spring-we are drying up fast!!!

I feel really bad for you because you're only about 15 miles SE from me and I've gotten about 12-13" so far this season! You guys down in southern Fairfax / Prince Wm were screwed beyond description on Dec 5 with a sharp cutoff between 6"+ and nothing but slush. I also got another 3" on Dec 6 and 3.5" Dec 14, don't remember what you guys got down there with those...

DAY 1O ECMWF wow!! MORE very cold air BIG southern snows

#9 Postby Guest » Tue Jan 13, 2004 8:51 pm

Day 10 euro is VERY impressive and is going to force me to rethink the idea that the arctic pattern is over in the eastern US

-- for those JB fans out there-- expect an amazing column filled with blizzard talk and glaciers.

the day 10 euro Builds a HUGE 500 NB western -NAO the like of which we have not see since 1980. Western greenland blocks of this nature out over LABRADOR almost always ensure very supreessed storm tracks as the send the PJ and sometime the AJ hurtling southward.... indeed on the 552 ht line is over the VA NC state line and BOS 500 ht line is a 3 day average of 525 ( approx 500-506 thickness).

http://cyclone.plymouth.edu/cgi-bin/gen ... &cu=latest

In this pattern ( assuming it is right of course) NE snowstorms are impossible.... as the PJ is PLUNGING south not running W to E along the GL and New england waiting to Phase

Meanwhile the STJ is clearing firing ( MJO anyone?) and sending wave after waves of Low pressure ; folks in TN NC could see A LOT of snow -- not only for those nornallly snowless locations but in ACTUAL amounts in overruning.

Of course the problem is VA... based on this map DC is way too deep into the cold air and even RIC could get screwed as I stay in NW flow .... yet watch heavy snow fall on the VA NC state line into ORF where the overrunning gets advected up to BUT not North of that...

beginnings of 70-80 for many in the south EXCEPT for central VA... this is screw zone is going to be amazing to see....

If this pattern does turn to fruition, then it's certainly possible.

I'm sorry to bother you guys-But that map that DT inked (for day 10-It was the Euro) seems to give the central plains some cold air and the Low back in New Mexico seems to be in a good place for us to get some snow when it comes out-am I reading this correctly?? Thanks for any info if you have time-Like I've said before, my model reading is about as good as the Chiefs in the play offs!!! Have a great night

Keep in mind, that given recent trends in the SOI (going negative) would suggest (along with the MJO), the pattern should become progressive in nature and the s/w energy in the SW should NOT bog down and eject eastward right into a quite cold airmass ... and taken at face value, would be a HUGE overrunning event ... and yes, ChrisGA, the EC 3 day average looks quite icy ...

IF THIS VERIFIES...................then I guess we'll miss snows, but at least NC and points south will finally get their snows.........and then some.

If people start moving to other locations then I believe "Will" from WWBB will be getting some new neighbors, especially after that post he made about the "Diamond Dust" snowfall. Pretty amazing stuff!

Its not reversed psychology,.....

when the friday event it snowed for 24 hrs continuous and I got nothing but CHO ROA LYH ORF did and much of north NC welll its pretty bad.... that is telling me that the problems from last winter are still here...

every one recalls one of those seasons right? well this will be the 3rd one and after going out on a limb with 79-80 to see a southern snow pattern set up and still get screwed... will be the Ultimate in fun
