Arctic Front Passes with a Great Big Yawn

#1 Postby mathias1979 » Tue Jan 13, 2004 3:09 pm

Quite a disappointment as the front passed through here today. The band of snow kinda fell apart crossing the mountains into our area then redeveloped to the south. Kinda reminded me of the kinda crap I had to put up with at Penn State. We just saw some light drizzle and flurries. I'm kinda jealous looking at the reports from Westchester on south of thundersnow and a quick coating of snow.

I know how you feel. Often a line of storms or snow showers/squalls (depending on the season) looks great as it is crossing the mountains, only to dramatically weaken or completely fall apart before it gets to my area.

Even tho I have my private doubts, I am monitoring the radars. IF we get a quick burst of snow and that cold air drops us below freezing, our roads could get slick in a few spots, particularly on bridges.

Just passed through here with a gusty spit of rain. There are more pockets of precip in the form of snow showers moving se through NJ and might add a bit of snow in the air.

Temps should start dropping like a rock soon.

Got real dark all of a sudden here and then a 10 minute period of intense snow, 3-4" an hour, and after 30 minutes or so it ended and the total was 0.6", but the bulk of it, about a half in fell in 10 minutes or so.

So it had a pretty eventful passage up here.
